Austin City Actions: Vice Law, Property Tax, Waived Fees

Thursday, March 12, 1925 regular

Here are key decisions and discussions from Austin's City Council:

  • Financial Relief for Citizens:

The council voted to waive legal costs for over 80 individuals in various court cases, providing financial relief to a significant number of residents.
  • New Public Decency Law:

An ordinance was swiftly passed through all readings, making it illegal to solicit persons for unlawful sexual intercourse and establishing penalties.
  • Property Tax Adjustment:

A special resolution corrected a property assessment for John Freeman, reducing the valuation of an "old box house" from $1640 to $600. The decision cited the building's age and occupancy by a "family of negroes" as reasons for the reduced valuation.
