Austin Plans New Bridge, Tackles Parking

  • Merchants successfully petitioned the City Council to eliminate parallel parking on Guadalupe Street (between 21st and 24th Streets), with an ordinance to that effect being drafted.

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April 07, 1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. Councilman Avery moved that the Mayor be authorized and directed to execute, on behalf of the City, the contract between the City of Austin and The Terrell Bartlett Engineers, Inc., whereby The Terrell Bartlett Engineers, Inc. are to make detailed design and specifications for a bridge across Barton Creek near the present bridge, for which said The Terrell Bartlett Engineers, Inc. are to be paid $850.00, all in accordance with the terms and conditions of said contract as this day prepared and presented to the City Council. The Council then adjourned. Joe Comedy City lett REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, April 9,1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The reading of the Minutes of the last meeting was suspended. The petition of P. W. McFadden and other merchants on Guadalupe Street between Twenty-first and Twenty-fourth Streets, asking the City Council to pass an ordinance eliminating parallel parking, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the City Attorney be instructed to draw an ordinance to conform to said petition. Councilman Searight moved to amend the above motion by having an ordinance drawn to retain parallel parking and fixing an hour limit. Motion lost by the following vote: Ayes, Councilman Nolen and Secright, 2; nayes, Councilmen Avery and Haynes and Mayor Yett, 3. The motion of Councilman Haynes was carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynen und Nolen, 4; nuyes, Councilman Searicht, Council man Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, it apneare from the tax rolle of the City of Austin that there was asceesed against Ed H. Taylor for city taxes for each of the years 1912, 1913, and 1914, the certain item of credit amounting to $7500.00; and WHEREAS, said Ed H. Taylor is now deceased, and Mrs. Zona Taylor, his surviving wife, has made and presented to the City Counc.l her sworn statement that within her personal knowledge said Ed H. Taylor owed the Austin National Bank and other parties more than $7500.00 during each of said years; and WHEREAS, it has become evident to te City Council from such facts 415
