REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 1 Austin, Texas, May 14, 1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Avery moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The monthly reports of O. N. Avery, Superintendent Water, Light and Power Department, J. N. Littlepage, City Marshal, and Miss Nellie M. Hall, Secretary United Charities, were read and ordered filed. The communication of J. A. King and other residents of Elmwood, asking that certain street improvements be made, was read and upon motion of Councilman Avery same was referred to Councilman Searight by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of Mrs. J. N. Keith, et al, requesting the Mayor and City Council to take immediate action in regard to the removal of shrubbery growing on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of 24th and Nueces Streets near Wooldridg School was read and Superintendent of Police and Public Safety Nolen was instructed to have same removed, by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, according to statement of the Assessor and Collector herewith attached, Lot 5, Block 3 in Lee Hill's Addition to the City of Austin having been doubly assessed for the taxes of 1921 on rendition of same by F. T. Ramsey and as "Unknown" on undivided roll; and WHEREAS, the taxes of 1921, amounting to $2.41, were paid by F. T. Ramsey on his rendition and the same taxes have been paid by D. W. Preece on the "Unknown" assessment, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Olerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue warrant against the General Fund for $2.41 in favor of D. W. Preece for amount erroneously paid by him. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes moved that Geo. P. Searight, Councilman, be authorized to settle claim of W. J. Dill for damages, in the amount of $300.00, to a wall erected on his property. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5, nayes, none. The application of the Wall Furniture Company to erect an electric sign at 911 Congress Avenue was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Nolen nominated W. L. Hearn as a regular policeman of the City of Austin, term to be effective May 15th, 1925, city agreeing to pay one-half 427 428 of salary of said policeman and the Deep Eddy Bathing Beach Company the other half. Nomination was confirmed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Nolen present but not voting. The Council then adjourned. The Council was called to order by the Mayor Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Avery moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of A. L. Johnson to install a gasoline storage tank at 2104 East Avenue was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted as recommended by the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of the Pierce Petroleum Corporation, asking for permission to erect a platform at their warehouse at 207 Nueces Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be granted as recommended. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The application of Carl H. Richter to erect a gasoline filling station at the corner of Park Street and Dam Boulevard was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of Fred Hubert to install a gasoline tank at 4500 Duval Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be adopted as recommended. Motion prevailed by the fol- lowing vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the valuation of $960.00 placed by the Board of Equalization on Lots 4, 5, and 6, Block 2, Outlot 2, Division "A", owned by J. W. Daugherty for 1922 was reduced by the City Council to $400.00 and according to statement of W. A. Pillow, Chairman of the Board, this reduction was overlooked by the Board in fixing the value of the property for taxes of 1923 and 1924 and same was placed at $960.00 for each of said years, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby instructed to
