456 Councilman Haynes moved that the report of the Committee upon the letting of the contract for the Barton Oreek Bridge be adopted and the contract let to A. A. Mundt. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. A committee of property owners located on Fourth Street appeared before the Council with reference to the paving of said street for one block on each side of Congress Avenue. After hearing the committee, Councilman Haynes moved that Mayor Yett be authorized to appoint a committee to confer with the railway officials with reference to the paving of said street. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The Council then adjourned. The Minutes of the meetings of July 16th, 23rd, and 31st were read and Councilman Avery moved the adoption of same. Kellersberger as City Engineer Pro Tem, at a salary of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($150.00) per month. F. and Louis Nitschke for renumbering of houses in blook between 19th and 20th Streets on Speedway, was read and Councilman Avery moved that the City Engineer be instructed to investigate and report back to the Council. Councilman Avery moved that the City Attorney be instructed to draw proper ordinance closing 24th Street from Whitis Avenue to Speedway. Jackson to erect a filling station at the corner of llth and Lydia Streets was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. The monthly reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor und Collector, A. S. Anderson Public Weigher, Public Health Nursing Association, Mrs. R. p. Walker, Pure Food Inspector, and WR. Davis, Cashier of Sewer Department, for the month of July were read and ordered filed. The petition of Friendly Will Baptist Church, Colored, of South Austin asking the loan of one of the fire bells, to be used at the new church building, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the request be granted Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery Haynes and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The application of Chris Callan to install a gasoline pump at the corner of West 9th and Colorado Streets was read and Councimlan Avery move that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. 1 AFTERNOON SESSION The Mayor laid before the Council the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC ON A CERTAIN PORTION OF BRAZOS STREET IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, CUMULATIVE OF CERTAIN ORDINANCES HERETOFORE ORDAINED, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Avery moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its second reading. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery Haynes and Nolen, 4 ; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Avery moved a further suspension of the rule and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage.
