Ritter to install a gasoline pump over gutter at 23rd Street and East Avenue was refused by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of Chris B. Callan to erect a gasoline station at the corner of West 9th and Colorado Streets was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted as recommended by the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The Safety Committee's report upon the application of E. L. Jackson to erect a filling station at the corner of Lydia and East 11th Streets was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be granted as recommended. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; : nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The report of A. C. Kellesberger, City Engineer, in the matter of renumbering of houses on Speedway between 19th and 20th Streets, was read and Councilman Avery moved that City Attorney be instructed to draw proper resolution and present same at the next regular meeting of the City Council, embracing renumbering as suggested as No. 2 on plat. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The application of R. H. Kirby to erect an iron-olad garage at the Tear of 207 Congress Avenue was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. The application of James McConnachie to erect a gasoline station at 53rd and Guadalupe Street was read and same was referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The petition of J. M. Crawford and others, asking the City Council to have the ravine on South Congress Avenue filled by dumping the sanitary trash from the trash carte into same, was read and Councilman Avery moved that the Sanitary Department be instructed to comply with said request. The following bids to furnish fuel to the Water, Light and Power Department of the City of Austin for one year, were opened and read: Carr Coal Company, bid $1.98 per ton; MoAlester Coal Company, bid $2.00 per ton; Bastrop Lignite Coal Company, bid $1.98 per ton; Sparks Lignite Coal Company, bid $2.00 per ton; Big Lump & Texas Coal Company, bid $1.98 per ton; Belto Coal Company, bid $2.05 per ton; After comparison of above bids, Councilman Avery moved that the bids of the Carr Coal Company, Bastrop Lignite Coal Company, and Big Lump & Texas Coal Company be accepted as the three lowest and best bids. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery and Haynes, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Nolen and searight absent. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 18th, 1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Hawley, members of the State Fire Insurance Commission, appeared before the Council and discussed plans for the betterment of the Fire Department of the City of Austin, and said Commission agreed to submit later a written statement of their suggestions for improving same. Councilman Nolen introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, heretofore Billy Dickerson was fined in the Corporation Court said fine and costs amounting to Twenty-two Dollars and Eighty Cents ($22.80), which amount was paid by Leon R. Barron, the employer of said Dickerson; and WHEREAS, it is deemed proper that a portion of said payment should be refunded to said Barron, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Council and the Mayor be authorized and instructed to 459
