Carr Coal Company, bid $1.98 per ton; MoAlester Coal Company, bid $2.00 per ton; Bastrop Lignite Coal Company, bid $1.98 per ton; Sparks Lignite Coal Company, bid $2.00 per ton; Big Lump & Texas Coal Company, bid $1.98 per ton; Belto Coal Company, bid $2.05 per ton; After comparison of above bids, Councilman Avery moved that the bids of the Carr Coal Company, Bastrop Lignite Coal Company, and Big Lump & Texas Coal Company be accepted as the three lowest and best bids. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery and Haynes, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Nolen and searight absent. The Council then recessed. SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, August 18th, 1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; absent, Councilman Searight. J. J. Timmins, G. N. Holton, and Geo. C. Hawley, members of the State Fire Insurance Commission, appeared before the Council and discussed plans for the betterment of the Fire Department of the City of Austin, and said Commission agreed to submit later a written statement of their suggestions for improving same. The Council then adjourned. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Joe Austin, Texas, August 20,1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor.. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; absent, Councilman Searight. The application of Rufus B. Wright to erect a sign at the corner of 19th and San Antonio Streets was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none. Councilman Nolen introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, heretofore Billy Dickerson was fined in the Corporation Court said fine and costs amounting to Twenty-two Dollars and Eighty Cents ($22.80), which amount was paid by Leon R. Barron, the employer of said Dickerson; and WHEREAS, it is deemed proper that a portion of said payment should be refunded to said Barron, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Council and the Mayor be authorized and instructed to 459 460 respectively issue and execute a warrant for Ten Dollars ($10.00), payable out of the General Contingent Fund, to the order of Leon R. Parron, and that the City Olerk deliver said warrant to said Barron as such refund. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett Councilmen Avery, Haynes and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of Mrs. D. S. Woods to erect a wooden sign on property located on East Ist Street and Red River Streets was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of R. H. Kirby to erect an iron clad garage in the rear of 207 Congress Avenue was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the report of said committee be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4 ; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. Councilman Haynes also moved that the City Attorney be instructed to notify R. H. Kirby to remove garages erected and to comply with said ordinance governing same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The Mayor introduced the following ordinence: AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE ERECTION WITHIN THE FIRE LIMITS OF BUILDINGS OUT OF MATERIAL OTHER THAN AS PROVIDED FOR IN THIS ORDINANCE, PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. The above ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Haynes moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be placed on its second reading Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Haynes moved a further suspension of the rule and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage. The ordinance wae read the third time and Councilman Haynes moved that same be finally passed. The Mayor introduced the following resolution: A RESOLUTION NUMBERING CERTAIN HOUSES, SITUATED ON LAMPASAS STREET, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS SPEEDWAY. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the houses situated on time west side of Lampasas Street, otherwise known as Speedway, between its intersections with Nineteenth Street and Twentieth Street, and all in Outlot No. 19, Division "D", in the City of Austin, shall be numbered as follows: 1. The house situated on the south 69 feet of Lot No. 39 shall be numbered 1900 Speedway. ! i 2. The house situated on the north 4 feet and south 23 feet of Lot No. 40 shall be numbered 1902 Speedway. 3. The house situated on the north 47 feet of Lot No. 40 shall be numbered 1904 Speedway. 4. The Mayor introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE PLACING, STORAGE, OR REPAIR OF AUTOMOBILES AND OTHER THINGS ON THE STREETS, ALLEYS, AND SIDEWALKS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN; PROHIBITING THE USE OF SUCH STREETS, ALLEYS, AND SIDEWALKS FOR GARAGE SHOP AND STORAGE PURPOSES; AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF SUCH ORDINANCE. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Haynes moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted. Sibley to erect a sign at 107 West 7th Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Fletcher to erect a gasoline filling station at the corner of 1151 San Bernard Street was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Ladd, President, for permission to use East Avenue from East 4th to East 6th Streets, for the purpose of giving a carnival for one week beginning September 14th, 1925, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be rented.
