    An assistant health officer was authorized to be appointed, at a salary of $125 per month, to cover duties during the illness of Dr. Z. T. Martin.

    Resolutions were adopted to rectify two separate property tax assessment errors, allowing one property owner to pay the correct, lower valuation and refunding $34 to another for double-paid improvements.
  • Downtown Signage Decisions:

    The council granted permission for the Women's Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church to hang a cloth sign across an avenue and approved a business sign on Guadalupe Street, but refused another sign application for a business on East Sixth Street.
  • Gas Station Application:

    An application to erect a new gasoline station on Barton Springs Road was referred to the Safety Committee for review.

Councilman Avery moved that the Mayor be authorized to appoint an assistant health officer during the illness of Dr. Z. T. Martin, at a salary of $125.00 per month. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then adjourned. Homeby REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, October 15th, 1925. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, 4; absent, Councilman Searight. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The petition of the Auto Accessories Company and other merchants in the 500 block on East 6th Street was read and laid over. Petition of Geo. S. Dowell, Mrs. Hattie L. Dowell, and Jno. C. Butler, asking that certain remission of taxes be made, due to conditions on East 2nd Street, was presented by D. J. Pickle, Attorney. Councilman Haynes moved that same be referred to the City Attorney. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the records of the Assessor and Collector show that the Unit System experts placed a value of $3270.00 on the North 79x138 feet of Lots 1 and 2 and 31x49 feet of Lot 2, Blook 103, assessed by W. A. Boswell, and in transcribing values from their original records to the City Lot Register, the clerks separated the two dimensions and carried the value of the whole assessment on each separate piece of property; and WHEREAS, suit has been instituted to collect the taxes for the years 1922, 1923, and 1924, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the Assessor and Collector be authorized and instructed to correct said error and permit Mr. Boswell to pay on $3270.00, the correct valuation, and take credit for the taxes on the excess value. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following resolution: 479 480 WHEREAS, the records of the Assessor and Collector show that I. H. and Alma. Haws have assessed and paid taxes for the years 1922, 1923, and 1924 on Lot 16, Block 19, Outlots 8, 9, and 62, Division "B", Grande View Place, together with improvements valued at $500.00, when in fact said lot was vacant, and, as has been shown, was owned by Sadie Mackey; and WHEREAS, I. H. and Alma Hawe own Lot 6, Block 19, Outlots 8, 9, and 62, Division "B", Grand View Place, together with improvements, upon which the taxes have been paid for the years 1922, 1923, and 1924, upon assessment as "Unknown Owner", thereby making a double payment on improvements for said years, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue a warrant against the General Fund in favor of said I. H. and Alma Hawe for $34.00, the amount paid by them on said improvements doubly assessed. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The application of G. Holman to erect a gasoline station on Barton Springs road was read and referred to the Safety Committee by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The petition signed by Mrs. J. O. Prowse,. Chairman of Committee of the Women's Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church, asking permission to hang a cloth sign across the Avenue at Second Street, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that the request be granted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, and Councilman Haynes; nayes, Councilman Nolen, absent, Councilmen Avery and Searight, The communication of Mrs. Thos. D. Barton, complaining of drainage at her place at 22nd and Speedway, was read and ordered filed. The application of J. T. together with report of the Safety Haynes moved that same be refused. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. Wood to hang a sign at 405 East Sixth Street, Committee upon same, was read and Councilman The application of Otis Terrell to hang a sign at 2324 Guadalupe Street, together with the Safety Committee's report upon same, was read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be granted as recommended. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, and Nolen, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Searight absent. The Council then recessed.
