514 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, January 21, 1926. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Avery. A committee composed of H. Sanders and A. Gustafson and wife appeared before the Council asking that the City Council order the street opened from Sixth Street south to the alley in the rear of their properties. Mayor Yett instructed the City Attorney City Engineer, and Street Commissioner to investigate same and report ان back to the Council. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Counoilman Searight moved that same be adopted as read. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; absent, Councilman Avery, nayes, none. Councilman Searight moved that the City Attorney be instructed to draw an ordinance closing Comal Street between the old and new cemeteries. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The report of the Safety Committee upon the application of E. P. James to erect a filling station at 38th and Guadalupe Street was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The application of Leonard and Floyd Baker to install an underground gasoline tank at 1700 Lavaca Street for the purpose of operating a dry cleaning establishment, together with the Safety Committee's report upon same, was read and Councilman Searight moved that same be granted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Bills against the Police Department, amounting to approximately $600.00, were presented and Councilman Searight moved that Councilman Haynes be authorized to approve вате. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. Councilman Haynes introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE PARKING OF VEHICLES IN THE ALLEYS IMMEDIATELY EAST AND WEST OF CONGRESS AVENUE AND REGULATING THE COURSE OF TRAFFIC THEREIN, AND REPEALING SECTIONS 9A, 9B AND 90, OF THE ORDINANCE PASSED ON OCTOBER 19, 1922? REGULATING TRAFFIC IN SAID ALLEYS, AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Searight moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Searight moved a further suspension of the rule and the ordinance placed on its third reading and final passage. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Avery absent.
