518 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, February 04, 1926. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, and Senright, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Haynes moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 5; nayes, none. Marshall Bell presented a petition, signed by W. F. Adams and others, asking the City to open up East 43rd Street for one block. The petition wus referred to the Street Department. Communication of C. G. Meroney and others, protesting the closing of Comal Street from 14th to 19th Streets, was read and same was laid on the table. : The monthly reports of Fred Sterzing, Assessor and Collector, A. S. Anderson, Public Weigher, Miss Harriet Maxwell, Public Health Nurse, and Mrs. R. C. Walker Pure Food Inspector, were read and ordered filed. The application of D. S. Pardue to erect a gasoline tank and filling station was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The petition of J. A. Beck to erect a gasoline filling station at 803 East 23rd Street was read and Councilman Avery moved that same be referred to the Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor Yett, Councilmen Avery, Haynes, Nolen, and Searight, 5; nayes, none. The Council then recessed. MoGregor appeared before the Council and asked for an increase in the salaries of policemen. The opinion of J. B.
