At a meeting of the Austin School Board held on Wednesday afternoon, March 24th, a motion was made and unanimously carried to ask you to submit to the citizens of Austin, who are also property owners, the question of voting an issue of school bonds in the amount of $150,000.00 to supplement the $500,000.00 bond issue voted upon December 14, 1923. It is the judgment of Messrs. Giesecke & Harris, architects of the high school building, that it would take $56,572.00 to complete the fourth floor of this building and equip it properly. It is the judgment of Hugo Kuehne, ehne, architect for the elementary schools and colored schools, that it would take $106, 5.913.75 to properly complete and equip these schools. These amounts total $163,485.75. After careful consideration and after eliminating wherever possible, it is our deliberate judgment that the work can not well be done satisfactorily for less than the amount we are asking you to submit, namely $150,000.00. At the proper time and immediately after the calling of this election, it is the purpose of the Board of Trustees to make a detailed accounting of the disposition of the proceeds of the bonde voted on December 14, 1923, This statement is now in preparation and will be ready to be passed upon by the Board of Trustees and presented to the citizens of Austin within a week or two. I have been directed by the Board to bring this matter to your immediate attention and to ask you to call this election before the close of schools on June 2d, and preferably aroundthe Twentieth of May.
