REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 09, 1926. The Council wascalled to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; absent, Councilmen Barker and Reed, 2. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Mueller moved that same be adopted. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker and Reed absent. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council a statement of the United Charities of their overdraft covering the period from August 10th, 1926, το October 25th, 1926, in the amount of $748.01. Councilman Mueller moved that the account be approved and ordered paid. Motion was seconded by Councilman Pannell and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell. 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker and Reed absent. A committee, composed of J. F. Springfield, President Austin Street Railway Company, Judge James A. King and other residents of Duval Street, appeared before the Council and filed a petition, signed residents of said street, protesting against the character of pavement contemplated for Duval Street The petition was received and filed and the committee assured that the matter would be taken under advisement by the Council. The Mayor laid before the Council for its second reading, the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION AND DEFINING ITS MEMBERSHIP, PURPOSES AND FUNCTIONS. The ordinance was read the second time and laid over. Acting City Manager Rector laid before the Council the report of the Safety Committee upon the application of A. D. Dye to erect a drive-in gasoline filling station at 1801 South CongressAvenue. Mayor McFadden moved that same be granted in accordance with the recommendations of said Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker and Reed acsent. Acting City Manager Rector laid before the Council the report of the Safety Committee upon the application of R. O. Kretzchmar to erect & drive-in gasoline filling station at 1818 East 6th Street. Councilman Mueller moved that the application be granted in accordance with the recommendations of said Safety Committee. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Concil...en Mueller and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker and Reed absent. Acting City Maneger Rector laid before the Council communication from Meyer Creamery Company asking permission to erect small curb signs in front of their place of business in the 300 block on West óth Street, limiting the parking of automobiles to fifteen minutes in front of same. Council instructed Acting City Manager Rector to advise the Meyer Creamery Company that such request would be allowed. Councilman Mueller moved that the Council recess, subject to the call of the Mayor. Motion prevailed cy the following vote: Ayes, Mayor 11 12 McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker und Reed acsent. The Council then recessed. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, December 16,1926, The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; absent, Councilmen Barker and Reed. Mayor McFadden stated that the reading of the Minutes would be deferred until later in the meeting and the committees present would be heard. A committee from the United Charities, composed of A. C. Baldwin, Dr. W. R. Minter, Mrs. Forrest Farley, Miss Nellie M. Hall and Miss Nell Baker, were then heard in the matter of an adjustment of the work said organization and the City Department of Public Welfare. The committee requested the Council to continue the present financial support being given said organization until the beginning of their next fiscal year in October, 1927. The Council took the matter under advisement. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council for its third reading the following ordinances AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE CITY PLAN COMMISSION AND DEFINING ITS MEMBERSHIP, PURPOSES AND FUNCTIONS. The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Pannell moved that same be finally passed. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Kueller, and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker and Reed absent. Councilman Mueller moved that the City Manager and City Clerk be authorized to open the election boxes containing returns of the School Bond Election held June 25th, 1926, in order to make certified copies of the original returns to the Attorney General in his examination of the School Bond Record Transcript. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Barker and Reed absent. City Manager Johnson laid before the Council a request from the Chamber of Commerce, asking the City to furnish extra lighting for the Community Christmas Celebration, and advised that the cost of same would be about $140.00 and that the City could salvage about one-half of this amount after the celebration was over. The Council agreed that the request should be granted.
