REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, January 06, 1927. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Barker, and Pannell, 3 absent, Councilmen Mueller and Reed. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Barker moved the adoption of same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Barker, and Pannell, 3; nayes, none, Councilmen Mueller and Reed absent. Judge R. E. Cofer, Attorney, appeared before the Council with reference to the claim of Dr. F. C. Bolton against the City for additional services rendered in connection with the TP&L negotiations. The Council took the matter under advisement. Councilman Reed entered the Council Chamber. H. H. Sevier, on behalf of the Library Association, extended an invitation to the City Council to visit their new building located on the block south of Wooldridge Park, and also presented a request from said Association, asking that the City put in ourbing from Guadalupe Street west on Ninth Street along said block in order that they may proceed with the beautifying of the grounds. Richard Yett, Attorney, laid before the Council claims, in the aggregate of $4158.18, of service car operators for a refund of licenses paid. No action was taken on the matter. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, on June 11, 1926, John W. Fritts received personal injuries by being burned with a wire charged with electric current furnished by the City of Austin, and has made claim against the City of Austin for damages on account of said injuries; and WHEREAS, said party has agreed to settle in full his said claim against the City for the sum of Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirteen ($8413.00) Dollars; and WHEREAS, it is deemed that such a settlement is desirable and proper, subject to the following conditions; and WHEREAS, under the terms of its indemnity policy with the City of Austin, the Zurich General Accident & Liability Insurance Co., Ltd., has paid into the Treasury of the City of Austin, to the credit of the Earnings Fund of the Water, Light & Power Department, the sum of Five Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty ($5.780.00) Dollars, in contribution to said settlement, Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Eight Thousand Four Hundred & Thirteen ($8,413.00) Dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the Earnings Fund of the Water, Light & Power Department, for the purpose of paying in full the claim of said John W. Fritts, and that a warrant for said amount be issued to him; and that said warrant be delivered said Fritts, upon the execution and delivery by him of a release to the City of Austin from all further claims 21 22 and demands on account of his said injuries, and upon the payment by said Fritts of the bill of the City of Austin for hospital services amounting to $413.00. Councilman Reed moved the adoption of the above resolution. Motion was seconded by Councilman Pannell and carried by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Barker, Pannell, and Reed, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Mueller absent. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, the stock of merchandise of Heidenheimer & Company, situated at 201 East 3rd Street, Austin, Texas, was assessed for taxation at a valuation of $85,000.00, for the year of 1926; and WHEREAS, it has become known to the City Council that said assessment is erroneous, and that said stock of merchandise should have properly been assessed at $74,835.00; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the assessment of said stock of merchandise be corrected from the present valuation of $85,000.00 placed on same for the taxes for the year 1926, so as to make same at the assessed valuation of $74,835.00, and the City Тах Аввеввor & Collector be and he is instructed to change his rolls according to this correction, and to take credit therefor. Councilman Reed moved the adoption of the above resolution. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, one Chevrolet automobile, owned by W. O. Burton, was assessed for taxation for the year 1926, at a valuation of $200.00; and WHEREAS, it has been made known to the City Council that said assessment is erroneous, and that said automobile should have properly been assessed at a valuation of $150.00; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the assessment of said automobile, in the name of W. O. Burton, be corrected from the present valuation of $200.00 as placed on same for the year 1926, so as to make same at the assessed valuation of $150.00; and the City Tax Assessor & Collector be and he is hereby instructed to change his rolls according to this correction, and to take credit therefor. Councilman Reed moved the adoption of the above resolution. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Barker, Pannell, and Reed, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Mueller absent. City Manager Johnson laid before the Council plat of the City Engineer showing the renumbering of the houses on the south side of the 300 block on West 7th Street. The Council instructed the City Manager to have proper resolution drawn covering the matter. Councilman Reed moved that Councilman Barker be permitted to attend the meeting of the Executive and Legislative Committees of the League of Texas Municipalities, which meet in Dallas January 11, 1927, and the expenses of said trip be borne by the City. Motion was seconded by Councilman Pannell and carred by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Barker, Pannell and Reed, 4; nayes, none, Councilman Mueller absent.
