BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) be and the same is hereby set apart and appropriated out of the General Fund of the City of Austin for the purpose of paying in full for one Model 66, 600-Gallon Combination Pumping Engine and Hose car, purchased from The Seagrave Corporation, and a warrant for said amount, payable to The Seagrave Corporation, shall issue and be delivered to payee, upon proper receipt thereof Councilman Mueller moved the adoption of the above resolution. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor KoFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Steck, 4; nays, none, Councilman Reed absent. Letters from Judge Ireland Graves, asking that the property at the corner of 19th and Whitis Avenue and Lavaca Street and the corner of 27th and Guadalupe Streets be declared to be in the business section of the city, and from Henry Wukasch, asking that the property on the northwest corner of 26th and Guadalupe Streets be declared to be in the business section of the city, were read. Also petition from residents on Whitis Avenue and adjacent streets, protesting against the designation of this property as business property, was read. The above applications and petition were received and taken under advisement and copies of same ordered sent to the City Planning Commission. Councilman Pannell moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Mayor. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Steck, 4; naye, none, Councilman Reed absent. The Council then reсеввед. Roll cell showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Mueller moved the adoption of came. Motion was seconded by Councilman Steck and same prevailed by the following vote: Aves, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. A committee of ladies living on East Avenue above 23rd Street requested the City to grant them some relief in the way of street improvements, semer connection and better fire protection. Councilman Pannell moved that the matter be referred to the City Mancger and City Engineer to make a survey of conditions and give them relief at the earliest practicable date. Motion mas seconded by Councilzan Mueller and same crevailed by the followin, vote: 149 150 Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, end Steck, 5; nays, none. Mayor McFadden laid cfore the Council the following communication from Orin E. Metcalfe, City Engineer: Adam F. Johnson, City Manager, Austin, Teхав. City Council, Austin, Texas. Gentlemen: "August 4, 1927. With reference to the request of J. O. Buaas & Sons for the establishment of a special platform grade on 4th Street from the west line of Lavaca Street to & point 50 feet east thereof, I recommend that the Council take such action as may be necessary to permit a platform to be built approximately 3.5 feet above the car rail. With reference to their request for a special grade and platform on Lavaca Street, I recommend that they be permitted to build a platform 10 feet wide and the top of said platform to be level with the proposed 4th Street platform for a distance of 108 feet northerly from the north line of 4th Street, and that the grade then change and slope down to a standard curh height at the alley. I suggest that J. Q. Quaze and 3ons be required to build a gutter 2 feet wide adjacent to their concrete platform on 4th Street in accordance with the proper grade of the street as established by City Engineer's levels, and that the architect for J. C. Bugas and Sons present plans and details for a platform and for an awning for final approval before construction. I suggest that the Council designate Lavaca Street shall be a business block between 4th and 5th Streets and that the width between curbs shall be 60 feet instead of 40 feet as heretofore. Respectfully submitted, (Sgd) Orin E. Metcalfe, 11 City Engineer. Mayor McFadden moved that the above recommendations of the City Engineer be adopted and said J. 0. Bueas & Sons be instructed to build their platforma in accordance therewith. Motion was seconded by Councilman Reed and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Yueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE CONSTRUCTION, MAINTENANCE AND USE OF PLACES FOR THE DISPOSAL OF HUMAN EXCRETA WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND WITHIN THE AREA OF POLICE JURISDICTION THEREOF; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE. The above ordinance was read the second time and laid over. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE HANDLING AND DISPOSAL OF GARBAGE AND WASTE IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND PROVIDING PENALTY. The above ordinance was read the second time and laid over. Kayor LcFadden laid before the Council a letter from Dr. J. ". McLaughlin, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, indorsing the two above ordinances. Councilman Reed moved that the City Manager be authorized to enter into a contract with J. L. Deison, Guardian for Mrs. Annie E. Sharp, for the leasing of the premises at 1601 West 34th Street for a term of six months, teginning August 1st, 1927, and ending February 1st, 1928. Motion was seconded by Councilman "Mueller and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor XcFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Councilman Mueller coved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Mayor.
