Austin: Hogs Banned, Fuel Secured, Mains Debated

Councilman Reed moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor HoFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed. Approved: W.M Fadden REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Mayor. Austin, Texas, August 25,1927. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed; 4, absent, Councilman Steck. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Mueller moved the adoption of same. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Reed, 4; nays, none, Councilman Steck absent. Councilman Mueller moved that the Council proceed with the opening of bids for lignite. Motion was seconded by Mayor McFadden and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Reed, 4.; nays, none, Councilman Steck absent. The following bids were then opened and read: Carr Coal. Company, $1.98 per ton for 10,000 to 12,000 tons; Calvin Coal Company, Calvin, Texas, $2.00 per ton; McAlester Fuel Company, $1.98 per ton, for 20,000. tons; Bastrop Lignite Coal Company, $1.98 per ton. Councilman Reed moved that the above bids be referred to City Manager Johnson, Purchasing Agent Pitcher, Walter Seaholm, Superintendent Electrical Lines, and H. L. Newton, Chief Engineer at Power Plant, for tabulation and report to the Council. Motion was geconded by Councilman Mueller and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, 4; nays, none, Councilman Steck absent. A letter from Miss Roberta Lavender, with reference to traffic regulations, was read and ordered filed. A. C. Wright appeared before the Council to request that the City change the location of a 12" water main on property owned by him in the 2800 block on Rio Grande Street, The matter was taken under advisement. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council for its third reading the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE KEEPING OF ANY SWINE OR LIVE HOG WITHIN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND PRESCRIBING A PENALTY. 158 The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Mueller moved that same be finally passed. Motion was seconded by Councilman Reed, and same prevailed by the following votes Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Reed, 4; nays, none, Councilman Steck absent. Councilman Reed moved that City Manager Johnson be authorized to attend the International Oity Managers Convention at Dubuque, Iowa, on September 13, 14, 15, 1927. Motion was seconded by Councilman Pannell and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor HoFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Reed, 4; nays, none, Councilman Steck absent. City Manager Johnson announced that a tabulation of the bids for lignite referred to him earlier in the meeting had been made and submitted the following recommendations Carr Coal Company, Rookdale, Texas, to furnish 10,000 tone, at the rate of 195 tone per week, for $1.98 per ton; Nexlester Fuel Company, Dallas, Texas, to furnish 19,800 tons, at the rate of 381 tons per week, for $1.83 per ton; Bastrop Lignite Coal Company, Bastrop, Texas, to furnish 14,000 tons at the rate of 271 tons per week, for $1.98 per ton. Councilman Mueller moved that City Manager Johnson be authorized to enter into contracts with the above firms for the quantities and at the prices stated, such contracts to cover a period of one year, from September 1, 1927, to August 31, 1928. Motion prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, and Reed, 4; naye, none, Councilman Steck absent. Councilman Reed moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Mayor. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the following Memoranda of Agreement, proposed to be entered into by and between A. C. BULL, City Treasurer of the City of Austin, and the TEXAS BANK & TRUST COMPANY, of Austin, Texas, be and the same is hereby in all respects ratified and confirmed, and in so far as the City of Austin is concerned, said Agreement, when executed, shall be the act of said City, and shall be accepted as the acts of said CITY TREASURER and said TEXAS BANK & TRUST COMPANY, respectively, in the particulars relating to said parties, to-wit:
