Councilman Mueller moved the adoption of the avove resolution. Motion was seconded by Councilman Steck and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, and Steck, 3; nays, none, Councilmen Pannell and Reed absent. The bond of Walsh & Burney, Inc., in the amount of $25,000.00, was received and filed. Councilman Mueller moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 4; absent, Councilman Mueller. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Steck moved the adoption of seme. Motion was seconded by Councilman Pannell and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes. Pearce of the University of Texas appeared before the Council and asked permission to do some archeological research work in the vicinity of Barton Springs The Council advised Prof. Pearce that his request would be granted if such work were done under the supervision of the City Manager, and requested that he make formal application in writing to the Council for this privilege. A letter from Travis Post No. 76 of the American Legion, in the interest of better traffic regulations, was read and Councilman Reed moved that the communication be received and filed and the thanks of the Council be extended to this organization for their interest and co-operation in the matter. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, Austin Gas Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps or plans showing the proposed construction of its gas mains in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said maps or plans have been considered by the City Council; therefore, 242 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Austin Gas Company be and the came is hereby permitted to lay and construct gas mains in and under the following streets: A 6-inch gas main on 29th Street from the west line of Guadalupe Street to the west line of Salado Street, the center of said line to be 21 feet south of and parallel to the north line of 29th Street and to have not less than 3.5 feet of cover. A 6-inch gas main on Salado Street from the south side of 29th Street to the north side of 30th Street, the center of said line to be 13 feet west of and parallel to the east line of Salado Street, to have 4 feet of cover at the gutter line at the north side of 29th Street and at all other points to have not less than 1.5 feet of cover. A 6-inch gas main on 30th Street from the east side of Salado Street to the west side of Washington Square, the center of said line to be 16 feet south of and parallel to the north line of 30th Street and to have not less than 1.5 feet of cover below the gutter line. A 6-inch gas main on Washington Square from the north side of 30th Street to the north side of 31st Street, the center of said line to be 40 feet west of and parallel to the east line of Washington Square, to have not less than 3 feet of cover at the gutter lines of 30th and 31st Streets and not less than 1.5 feet of cover at all other points. A 6-inch gas main on 31st Street from the west side of Washington Square to the east side of King Street, the center of said line to be 12 feet north of and parallel to the south line of 31st Street and to have notless than 1.5 feet of cover. A 6-inch gas main on King Street from the south side of 31st Street to the north side of 34th Street, the center of said line to be 19 feet west of and parallel to the east line of King Street or 4 feet west of and parallel to the west face of the east curb of King Street, and to have 4 feet of cover at 312 Street and at 34th Street and not less than 1.5 feet of cover at all other points. A 6-inch gas main on King Street from the north side of 34th Street to the north side of 38th Street, the center of said line to be 7 feet east of and parallel to the west line of King Street or 4 feet east of and parallel to the east face of the west curb, to have not less than 3.5 feet of cover at 35th Street, and to have not less than 2 feet of cover at all other points. A 6-inch gas main on 38th Street from the west side of King Street to the east side of Guadalupe Street, the center of said line to be 17 feet south of and parallel to the north side of 38th Street, and to go under all existing storm sewers, said main to be not less than & feet deep at the west side of Guadalupe Street. THAT the work and laying of said gas mains, including the excavation of the streets and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after said mains have been laid, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, and under all the pertinent terms and conditions of the certain franchise granted to said Company by the City of Austin. A 10-inch gas main on Lavaca Street, from the south side of First Street to the north side of Second Street, said main to be 15 feet west of and parallel to the center of said street and to have not less than 2 feet of cover. A 10-inch gas main on Second Street from the east side of Lavaca Street to the west side of Guadalupe Street, said line to be 25 feet north of and parallel to the south side of Second Street and to have not less than 24 inches of cover. A 6-inch gas main in the alley between Third and Fourth and Medina and San Marcos Streets to the east side of Medina, said main to be 5 feet north of the south side of said alley and to have 1.5 feet of cover. A 4-inch gas main on Medina Street from 3rd to 4th Streets, said main to be 23 feet west of the east line of Medina Street and to have not less than 4 feet of cover at gutter line on the south side of 4th Street. A 4-inch gas main on Fourth Street from the west line of Medina to the east line of Chalmers Street, said line to be 25 feet north of the south line of Fourth Street, to go under the storm sewer and to be covered as follows: not less than 4 feet at Waller Street and Navasota Street; not less than 8 feet at Comal Street and not less than 5 feet at Onion Street. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following resolution, which had been introduced at the last regular meeting and laid over for one week: WHEREAS, in response to the advertisement of the City of Austin, numerous bids were on December 22, 1927, submitted to the City Council for the purchase of Austin City Hospital Bonds, Series 1928, in the amount of One Hundred Thousand ($100,000.00) Dollars, as authorized at an election of the tax-payers of the City of Austin, held on June 25, 1926, among which bids was the bid of Kauffman, Smith & Company of St. Louis, which bid is as follows: "Austin, Texas, December 22, 1927. To the Hon. Mayor & Commissioners, City of Austin, Texas. Dear Sirs: For $100,000.00 legally issued Hospital conds of City of Austin, dated January 1, 1928, and to mature according to the serial maturities on the 30 year basis, as per schedule of maturities hereto attached, said bonds to be of the denominations of $1,000.00 bearing intercat at the rate of per cent per annum, payable semi-annually, both principal and intercet payable at Chase National Bank in the City of New York, N. Y. , WE WILL PAY YOU par and accrued interest to date of delivery, less $660.00 to be allowed for attorney's fees and printing of bonds.
