Austin Seminary Tax Exemption Approved

REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 433 Austin, Texas, May 03, 1928. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Pannell moved the adoption of same. Motion was seconded by Councilman Mueller, and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Dr. T. W. Currie appeared before the Council and submitted a written statement requesting that the properties of the Austin Theological Seminary be exempt from taxation. Councilman Steck moved that, it having been shown that the entire properties of said Institution are used exclusively for educational purposes, the same be classed as school property and therefore exempt from taxation, and that the Assessor and Collector be instructed to strike from his rolls the assessment against said property for the year 1927. Motion was seconded by Councilman Reed and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Councilman Mueller moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Kayor. Motion was seconded by Councilman Steck and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed.
