532 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, September 6.1928. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Mueller moved that same be adopted. Motion was seconded by Councilman Steck, and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Horace Barnhart, representing the Lions Committee on Playgrounds, appeared before the Council and reminded the Council of the needs of the playgrounds for next year and asked that provision be made for the maintenance of same. The Mayor assured him that the Council would do the very best they could. Two petitions, signed by the property owners adjacent to the bridge at Second and Red River Streets and merchants in the city who would use this bridge, were read and ordered filed for future consideration. An estimate of the cost of widening Wichita Street between 19th and 20th Streets, in the sum of $565.04, made by City Engineer Metcalfe, was read, and Mayor McFadden moved that the City Engineer be directed to proceed with the widening of said street under the suggestions and estimate furnished by him. Motion was seconded by Councilman Mueller, and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council application of J. A. Compton for the installation of a gasoline pump and tank at 2104 East Avenue; also letter of the Safety Committee stating their reasons for withholding their recommendation of same until certain adjustments could be made by Mr. Compton. Councilman Reed moved that permit be not granted until Mr. Compton had complied with the suggestions and requirements as outlined by the Safety Committee. Motion was seconded by Councilman Pannell, and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the costs in the following cases be remitted, same amounting to $10.80 in each case, in accordance with a resolution previously passed; the amount of the fine of $2.00 having been collected: No. 24700 -A.B.Crisp - Α.Μ. Upon the recommendation of City Manager Johnson, the Council approved the following as members of the Examining Board of Gas Fitters: J. B. Rector, City Attorney; H. K. Hume, Gas Inspector; Albert Schmidt, Master Plumber; 0. F. Rosentritt, Journeyman Plumber; J. C. Tabor, Representative Austin Gas Company. Councilman Steck moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Mayor. Motion was seconded by Councilman Mueller, and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: ONM Fadden Mayor. Austin, Texas, September 13,1928. The Council was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Mueller moved that same be adopted as read. Motion was seconded by Mayor McFadden, and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller, Pannell, Reed, and Steck, 5; nays, none. A letter from Robt. M. Hamby, asking that his property on Red River Street between 44th and 45th Streets be not included in the proposed city limits extension, was read and ordered filed for future consideration. Mayor McFadden laid before the Council the following: "Austin. Texas, Sept. 7,1928. Mr. Adam R. Johnson, City Manager, Austin, Texas. Dear Sir: I hereby make formal application for a permit to install a dry cleaning plant at my place of business, the T Pressing Shop, located at 2206 Guadalupe Street. The equipment consists of: 1 200 gallon clarifier; 1 washing machine; 1 deodorizer; and 1 extractor. This equipment is to use solvent in the cleaning and no gasoline is to be used.
