241 The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the certain resolution providing for the issuance of $1,000,000.00 bonds of the City of Austin and instructing the City Manager to advertise for bids for the purchase of said bonds, said bids to be received on December 3, 1930, be and the same is hereby modified so as to re-set the date for the receiving of said bids from December 3, 1930, to December 10, 1930, and the City Manager is hereby authorized and instructed to advertise as provided in said resolution in the publications therein provided, but as to date in accordance with the terms of this resolution. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Mayor McFadden, Councilmen Mueller and Pannell, 3; nays, none; Councilmen Reed and Steck absent, 2. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, the City Tax Assessor and Collector has this day submitted to the City Council the tax rolls of the City of Austin for the year 1930, which rolls show an aggregate amount of $52,802,845.00 of valuation of property assessed for taxes for said year, and an aggregate amount of $1,188,101.69 levied as taxes for said year; and WHEREAS, said tax rolls appear in all respects in correct form, the valuations contained in said rolls having been examined and corrected by the Board of Equalization, which has made its report to the City Council; Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That said tax rolls for said year be and the same are hereby approved. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, Texas Public Service Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps or plans showing the proposed construction of its gas mains in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said maps or plans have been considered by the City Council; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That Texas Public Service Company be and the same is hereby permitted to lay and construct its gas mains in and upon the following streets: (1) A 4-inch low pressure gas main in Pecan Grove Road from Sunset Lane to Newning Avenue, the center line of which gas main shall be 40 feet north of the south line of said Pecan Grove Road and parallel thereto. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (2) A gas main in Bickler Road, beginning at a point on the south line of Pecan Grove Road, which point of beginning is 27 feet west of the intersection of the east line produced of Bickler Road and said south line of Pecan Grove Road; Thence in a northerly direction 27 feet west of and parallel to said east line of Bickler Road. a distance of approximately 175 feet to tie in the dead end of an existing gas main. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. The Texas Public Service Company is hereby put upon notice that the City of Austin does not guarantee that the space assigned above is clear from other underground utilities, but is based upon the best records we have at hand, and that the 243 0 minimum depth stated does not have any reference to the fact that greater depths may be required at special points. When the Texas Public Service Company requires definite information upon the ground as to elevations or working points from which to base the location of their assignments they shall apply to the City Engineering Department not less than three (3) daye before such information is required. The Texas Public Service Company is further put upon notice that they will be required to bear the expense of repairs or replacement of any underground utility damaged during the construction of lines named in this resolution. AND THAT whenever pavement is cut in the vicinity of a fire plug, water must be used at intervals during the course of backfilling of the ditches; and THAT the work and laying of said gas maine, including the excavation in the streets, and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after said maine have been laid, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, and under all the pertinent terms and conditions of the certain franchise granted to said Company by the City of Austin. Whitham & Company, advising that they have completed the paving on Red River Street from the north line of Nineteenth Street to the north line of Twenty-fourth Street, District No. 43, and from the north line of Twentyfourth Street to the north line of Thirty-second Street, District No. 44, and of H. R. F. Helland, Consulting Engineer, stating that said paving has been completed in accordance with plans and specifications, and recommending the acceptance of same, were read and ordered filed. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, ΤΕΧΑΣ, ΛCCEPTING THE IMPROVEMENT OF A PORTION OF RED RIVER STREET, IN THE OTTY OF AUSTIN, AND AUTHOR- IZING THE PAYMENT OF THE BALANCE DUE BY THE CITY OF AUSTIN AND THE ISSUANCE AND DELIVERY OF CERTIFI- CATES OF SPECIAL ASSESSMENT AGAINST OWNERS OF ABUTTING PROPERTY. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT, WHEREAS, heretofore the hereinafter described street was ordered improved, contract for said work of improvement duly entered into, and assessment levied against abutting property and the owners thereof to cover the portion of the cost payable by the said property owners; and WHEREAS, pursuant to said contract and other proceedings in connection therewith, L. E. The total amount of this contract is $13,189.50, while the estimated cost was $10,274.56. The increase in cost is due to an extra 24 inch line constructed to East Avenue and Manor Road and to there being more rock excavation encountered than was estimated. I recommend that this work be accepted and that final estimate be paid. Yours very truly, (Sgd) H. R. F. Helland, Consulting Engineer. " Councilman Pannell moved that above work done by the Dallas Construction Company under Street Improvement Bond Contract No. 14 be accepted and final estimate paid. Covert, be accepted, in accordance with the recommendation of the Consulting Engineer, and final estimate paid. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN TEXAS, APPROVING THE CONTRACT AND BOND WITH L. E. WHITHAM & COMPANY FOR IMPROVING ALLEY IN BLOCK 67, AND OTHER ALLEYS, IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND SETTING ASIDE A FUND TO PAY THE PORTION OF THE COST REQUIRED BY THE TERMS OF SAID CONTRACT TO BE PAID BY THE CITY OF AUSTIN. The Mayor laid before the Council the application of M. H. Crockett to erect a gasoline filling station at the southeset corner of Nineteenth and San Jacinto Streets. Councilman Mueller moved that the site for said station be tentatively approved, subject to plans and specifications to be approved by the Safety Committee. A petition from residents and property owners asking that the City straighten out a dangerous curve on Evergreen Avenue in South Austin by cutting a new street from the head of the hollow through Lots 12, 13, and 14, to the Fredericksburg Road on the south, was read. Councilman Mueller moved that the City Manager be authorized to advise the property owners that the City would build this street provided the rightof-way for same were donated.
