The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Steck moved a further suspension of the rule and the placing of the ordinance on its third reading. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and Councilman Alford moved the adoption of same as read. Motion was seconded by Councilman Gillis and same prevailed by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillie, Mayor MoFadden, Councilman Steck, 4; nays, none; Councilman Mueller absent, 1. The Mayor laid before the Council the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR AND REGULATING THE TAPPING OF SEWERS AND CESS-POOLS, REGULATING HOUSE DRAINAGE AND PLUMBING, CREATING A BOARD FOR THE EXAMINATION OF PLUMBERS TO BE KNOWN AS THE EXAMINING AND SUPERVISING BOARD OF PLUMBERS, CREATING THE OFFICE OF INSPECTOR OF PLUMBING, PROVIDING FOR THE EXAMINATION AND LICENSE OF PLUMBERS, PROVIDING HOW SEWER CONNECTIONS SHALL BE MADE, PROVIDING FOR THE OBTAINING OF PERMITS TO MAKE SEWER CONNECTIONS AND REPAIRS, AND PROVIDING THE MANNER AND MEANS OF MAKING CONNECTIONS, AND PROVIDING THE DUTIES OF THE PLUMBING INSPECTOR AND HIS SALARY, THE FEES FOR INSPECTION, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE" IN THE PARTICULARS HEREINAFTER STATED, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, Cabaniss Furniture Company rendered $17,475.00 in accounts and notes receivable for the year 1928, amounting to $366.97 in taxes; and WHEREAS, Oabanies Furniture Company withheld payment of said taxes because other businesses were not rendering their accounts and notes receivable; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the Tax Assessor and Collector be and he is hereby authorized to remove this assessment from his tax roll for the year 1928. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor McFadden, Councilman Steck, 4; nays, none; Councilman Mueller absent, 1. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, the City of Austin, in agreement with J. B. and Joseph Fischer, owners of Lot 5, Block 10, Original City, utilized said property in the construction of a bridge at East Second and Red River Streets; and WHEREAS, it was agreed at the time that the owners of said property would deed to the Oity of Austin, as soon as a deed was prepared, said lot for the consideration of the delinquent taxes for the years 1923 to 1931, inclusive, amounting to $27.54; and WHEREAS, said deed has now been prepared and properly executed, transferring said property to the City of Austin; Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the Тах Авеевsor and Collector of the City of Austin be and he is hereby authorized to remove from his rolls the taxes against Lot 5, Block 10, Original City, for the years 1923 to 1931, inclusive, amounting to $27.54. The above resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor McFadden, Councilman Steck, 4; nays, none; Councilman Mueller absent, 1. A petition signed by Joe J. Fisher, Mrs. Annie Duce, and Eileen MoNamara, Instructors in dancing, protesting the teaching of dancing by the Recreation Department, was read and referred to the City Manager for a reply. A petition of citizens in the Seventh Ward, asking for the removal of the stock pens on East First Street, was read and the City Attorney was directed to prepare an ordinance which would remedy the situation. No further business coming before the Council, Councilman Steck moved to recess, subject to call of the Mayor.
