Following a lengthy discussion of the above matter, the Council took same under advisement Councilman Wolf moved that the Council recess, subject to call of the Mayor. The motion was seconded by Councilman Gillis and carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. The Council then recessed. Attest: Itallu City Clerk SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Approved Joy Milla. Mayor. Austin, Texas, October 25, 1933. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 4; absent, Councilman Alford, 1. Councilman Gillis moved that the proposal of the Austin Dam, Inc., for an extension of its contract for the rehabilitation of the Lake Austin Dam and Power House, as submitted to the Council at its special meeting of October 20th, be rejected. The motion was seconded by Councilman Wolf and carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Bartholomem, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 4; nays, none; Councilman Alford absent, 1. Mr. Ray Lee, Editor of the Austin American, was present and the Mayor and Council asked that he aid the City in the collection of taxes by writing a story appealing to the citizens who owe taxes to come to the Tax Department or City Attorney's office and make satisfactory arrangements for the payment of same in order to avoid the filing of suits, which must be done unless they respond within the next few days, as the City must collect $200,000.00 before the Ist of January next to meet all of its obligations. Councilman Alford entered the Council Chamber. The Mayor then had the motion of Councilman Gillis with reference to the rejection of the proposal as submitted by the Austin Dam, Inc. read and Councilman Alford voted "aye" on the matter. Councilman Alford moved that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew and carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none.
