457 Oity of Austin from any claims for damages to any person or property that may accrue to or be brought by any person by reason of the exercise of the privileges granted the Contractor by the City of Austin and shall guarantee the replacement of all sidewalke, pavement and all other public property and public utilities disturbed or removed during the construction work and shall further guarantee the construction of a walkway and other safeguarde during the occupancy of the space. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 4; nays, none; Councilman Alford absent, 1. The written request of Joe Prowse for remission of interest and penalty accruing on delinquent taxes against four lots owned by him located east of the Farmers 011 M111 on lower East 7th Street was referred to the City Attorney for recommendation. The Council granted permission to the King's Daughters to use the auditorium of the Austin Public Library on May 21st and May 22nd. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the sum of $42.75 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Fund, not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of paying Roger Q. Small for all damages occurring to him, on account of accident to his automobile on May 1, 1934, on West 6th Street, Oity of Austin. The written report of the City Manager on the advisability of opening West 32nd Street between Grandview and San Gabriel Streets, showing the cost of same to be prohibitive, was received and filed. The application of Humberto Rivera, 1320 Inks Avenue, for license to operate as a taxicab a Chevrolet Bedan, 1934 Model, Engine No. 4301897, State Highway License No. 131-680, was read. Councilman Alford moved that the rule requiring that applications remain on file five days prior to being acted upon be waived and the application be granted. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; naye, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2. W. D. Noton submitted to the Council a complaint that local butchers were being disoriminated against by allowing out-of-town butchers to sell meat which had not had ante- mortem inspection. After a discussion of the matter, the Oity Attorney was directed to prepare certain amendments to the ordinance regulating the operation of the Abattoir and the sale of meat in the City. Messrs. Geo. Rowley and Paul Williams submitted a proposal for their band to render concerts this summer on the basis of their proposal last year. The matter was referred to the City Manager to prepare a schedule of concerts and submit to the Council next Thursday. A committee representing the residents on West 9th Street from Blanco to West Lynn Streets, submitted a request for the immediate tarviating of said street at the City's expense, the same being a thoroughfare, in order to relieve the dust nuisance. The matter was referred to the City Manager to prepare an estimate of the cost of improving this street and submit same to the Council at the next regular meeting. Mayor Miller entered the Council Chamber. Messrs. Rex Kitchens and W. E. Odom, representing the Austin Builders Exchange, came before the Council and pledged the support of said organization in the Revenue Bond Election to be held on June 13th next. The Mayor laid before the Council the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE RATIFYING, EXTENDING AND CONFIRMING TO INTERNATIONAL-GREAT NORTHERN RAILROAD COMPANY THE RIGHT TO CONSTRUCT AND OPERATE ITS RAILROAD ON THE DAM BOULEVARD FROM DEEP EDDY TO AUSTIN DAM IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Alford moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance passed to its second reading. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 4; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew absent, 1. The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Alford moved that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance placed on its third reading.
