498 soorued the aggregate of $63.62, as penalties, and $410.59 as interest on said tax account; and WHEREAS, It is considered that in view of the above facts the penalties and interest should be remitted; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT all penalties and interest on thetaxes for the years 1923 to 1933, both inclusive, amounting in the aggregate to $63.62, as penalties, and $410.59 as interest, and court costs amounting to $11.00, on Lots 11 and 12, in Block 157, Oity of Austin, be and the same are hereby remitted; provided, that said total taxes amounting to $1272.11 are paid by July 1, 1934. There being no further business, Councilman Alford moved to recess, subject to call of the Mayor. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Pro tom Wolf, 4; nays, none; Mayor Miller absent, 1. The Council then recessed. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen C. F. Alford, C. M. Bartholomew, Simon Gillis, Mayor Tom Miller, and Councilman Oswald G. Wolf, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and upon motion of Councilman Gillis were adopted as read by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the sum of $60.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the GENERAL FUND, not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of paying the salaries, at the rate of $20.00 per month, for the months of June, July, and August, 1934, of the two laides who are acting as caretakers at the O. Henry Home. Upon motion of Councilman Alford, the resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. This being the day set for the hearing of owners of abutting property and others interested with reference to street improvements to be constructed on the following street: 499 1 The East One-half of Guadalupe Street between 12th and 13th Streets, and abutting the west side of Lot 1, in Original Blook 149; and The Alley intersecting Block 149 and abutting Lots 1 and 2 in said Block; the Mayor thereupon stated that all persons desiring to protest the levying of assessments against abutting property on the above street and within the limits above stated, or who desired to be heard with reference to the improvements proposed to be assessed against said property and the owners thereof, the lien and liability thereof, the special benefits to the property and the owners thereof, or any other matters or things authorized by the provisions of Article XXIV of the Charter of the City of Austin to be urged and considered at this hearing would now be heard from. No one appearing to protest the above matter, Councilman Gillis moved that the hearing be closed. The motion was adopted by the following vote : Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, Joe Prowse is the owner of Lots 7, 8, 9, and 10, Lincoln Place, Blook 13, Outlot 23, Division "A", Oity of Austin, and there are City taxes due and delinquent on said property for the years 1914, 1917, 1921, 1928, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1930, 1931, 1932, and 1933, amounting in the aggregate to $201.98, with interest and penalties amounting in the aggregate to $112.88, against which is credited by deposit $38.70 for taxes and $6.17 for interest and penalties, making the total amount due for taxes $163.28 and $106.71 for interest and penalties; and WHEREAS, By the terms of the affidavit of said Joe Prowse, dated June 7, 1934, which is attached hereto, it is made to appear in the judgment of the City Council that said Joe Prowse is entitled to the remission of said interest and penalties for said years; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the interest and penalties accruing against said taxes for said years, amounting to $106.71, be and the same are hereby remitted, provided the taxes are paid in full by July 15, 1934. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. The Mayor laid before the Council the following resolution: WHEREAS, There has accrued interest and penalties, amounting to $5.82, on the taxes covering 46x129 feet of Lote 2 and 3, Block 6, Outlot 75, Gypsy Grove Addition, and Lot 3, Block 7, Travis Heights Addition, Oity of Austin; and WHEREAS, Said property was rendered in the name of J. D. Elliott, and should have been rendered in the name of Maude Watt Elliott, and for said reason, the notices were not sent to the correct owner; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT said interest and penalties on said property, of the taxes for the year 1933, be and the same are hereby remitted, provided that said Maude Watt Elliott pay all of said taxes on said properties by July 15, 1934. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, G11118, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none.
