SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 115 Austin, Texas, May 01, 1935. The meeting was called to order at 3:00 P. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roli call showed the following members present: Councilmen Chas. F. Alford, C.M.Bartholomew, Simon Gillis, Mayor Tom Miller, and Councilman Oswald G. Wolf, 5; absent, none. Mayor Miller stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of installing the newly-elected City Council. J. Bouldin Rector, City Attorney, then administered the oath of office to Councilmen-elect Chas. F. Alford, C. M. Bartholomew, Simon G11118, Tom Miller, and Oswald G. Wolf. The Chair then stated that the Council would proceed with the election of a Mayor, Mayor Pro tem, and other officers for the ensuing two years. Councilman Gillis nominated Councilman Tom Miller as Mayor, to succeed himself. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew. There being no other nominations, Councilman Tom Miller was elected Mayor by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Wolf, 4; nays, none; Councilman Tom Miller present but not voting, 1. Councilman Alford nominated Councilman Oswald G. Wolf as Mayor Pro tem. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew. There being no other nominations, Counc11- man Wolf was elected Mayor Pro tem by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, 4; nays, none; Councilman Wolf present but not voting, 1. Councilman Alford nominated Guiton Morgan as City Manager. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Gillis. There being no other nominations, Guiton Morgan was elected City Manager by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. Councilman Gillis nominated J. W. Maxwell as Judge of the Corporation Court. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew. There being no other nominations, J. W. Maxwell was elected Judge of the Corporation Court by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; naye, none. Councilman Wolf nominated Cal M. Browne as Clerk of the Corporation Court. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Alford. There being no other nominations, Cal M. Browne was elected Clerk of the Corporation Court by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; naye, none. Councilman G11.1.1s nominated Dr. Banner Gregg as City Health Officer. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Wolf. There being no other nominations, Dr. Banner Gregg was elected City Health Officer by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. Councilman Gillis nominated K. R. Meyer as a member of the Board of Equalization for a term of two years, beginning May 1, 1935, and ending May 1, 1937. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Wolf. There being no other nominations, K. R. Meyer was elected a member of the Board of Equalization by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. The reading of the Minutes was dispensed with. G. A. Martins, Attorney for Jesus Guzman and Matilde Briseno, submitted a written request to have the two temporary taxicab licenses issued to licensees on March 18,1935, made permanent. It was the sense of the Council that action on the matter be deferred until a later date, on account of the quota of forty being exceeded at the present time. Councilman Wolf offered the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps and plans showing the proposed construction of its pole lines in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said. maps or plans have been considered by the City Engineer; therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company be, and the same is hereby permitted to construct its pole lines in the following streets: (1) A telephone pole line in AVENUE "H" from 45th Street north approximately 400 feet, the centerline of which pole line shall be 1 foot west of and parallel to the east line of Avenue "H". THAT the work and construction of said pole lines, including the excavation of the streets and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after said pole lines have been constructed, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager and in accordance with the ordinances and regulations of the City of Austin governing such construction. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 4; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew absent, 1. Mayor Miller moved that the following members of the Library Commission be reappointed for a term of two years, retroactive to July 1, 1934, and ending July 1, 1936, and that Geo. C.
