584 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, June 29, 1936. The meeting was called to order at 11:00 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Alford, Gillis, and Mayor Miller, 3; absent, Councilmen Bartholomew and Wolf, 2. The public hearing on the proposal of the City Council to amend the Zoning Ordinance in the following particulare was opened: To amend the USE designation of the following described property so as to change same from "C" Commerical District to Residence "A" District: All that property fronting on East First Street, in the 900 block, on both sides thereof, between its intersection with Brushy Street and its intersection with San Marcos Street, more particularly described as Lots 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11, Block 1, Outlot 31, Division "0", MK&T Addition, and Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, Block 4, Outlot 17, Division "0", Harrington Subdivision. To amend the Zoning Ordinance to prohibit the sale of alcoholic and malt beverages within the Class "C" Commercial Districts of Austin under the same provisions as the ordinance now regulates and excepts certain businesses and occupations in zoned areas. No one appeared to protest the proposed amendments. Geo. S. Dowell, Attorney for the proponents of the proposed change in zoning of the 900 block on East First Street, requested the City Council to defer the passage of of an ordinance making effective the proposed change in zoning of said block, as the proposed amendment to the Zoning Ordinance prohibiting the sale of alcoholic and malt beverages in "C" Commercial Districts would give them the desired relief. The request was granted. The Assistant City Attorney was then directed to prepare amendments to the Zoning Ordinance in the particular above stated, and to the Beer and Liquor Ordinances.
