80 to construct a flagstone walk from the curb line to the property line at the above described location and said walk is to be constructed under the supervision and direction of the City Engineer of the City of Austin and in accordance with lines and grades furnished by the Engineering Department of the City of Austin, and further subject to the following conditions: That the stone shall be laid in a smooth and workmanlike manner and shall conform to the sidewalk grades and curb grades as given by the Engineering Department of the City of Austin in order that same will not create a hazard to pedestrians. That the stone shall be placed upon a 4" concrete base and that all work within the City streets shall be done by a bonded sidewalk contractor and in accordance with the instructions and directions of the City Engineer of the City of Austin. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 4; naye, none; Councilman Bartholomew absent, 1. REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, October 8, 1936, The meeting was called to order at 10:45 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen C. F. Alford, C.M. Bartholomew, Simon Gillis, Mayor Tom Miller, and Councilman Oswald G. Wolf, 5; absent, none. The Minutes of the regular meetings of September 24 and October 1 were read and upon motion of Councilman Gillis were adopted as read by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. Councilman Bartholomew went on record as approving the action of the City Council pertaining to all matters transacted at the meetings of August 6, August 13, August 27, September 3, September 17, September 24, and October 1, the same as if he had been present and voting. Mrs. C. B. Easton and Mrs. W. C. Lear presented a petition, asking that the name of Pratt Avenue between 32nd and 34th Streets be changed to Bailey Lane. Upon motion of Councilman Gillis, the matter was referred to the City Engineer for recommendation, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. : ! Judge Bryan Blaylock and committee submitted a request for the installation of a traffic light on South Congress Avenue at its intersection with East Live Oak Street. Upon motion of Councilman Gillis, the matter of installing traffic lights on South Congress Avenue at its intersection with East Live Oak Street, Monroe Street, and Riverside Drive was referred to W. E. Seaholm for an estimate of the cost of same. Councilman Alford moved that the following named persons be granted taxicab driver's permits, in accordance with the recommendation of Roy J. Smith, Captain of Police, Traffic Division: Robert Lee Day, 1115 West 5th Street; Manual Lopez, 94 Rainey Street; Alfredo Rangel, 816 East 9th Street; and Barney Rigge, 409 East 7th Street. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford moved that a transfer of Taxicab License No. 26, formerly held by Eugene Vasquez, to Lawrence Reyes be authorized, in accordance with the recommendation of Roy J. Smith, Captain of Police, Traffic Division. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford offered the following resolution: WHEREAS, Texas Public Service Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps or plans showing the proposed construction of its gas mains in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said maps or plans have been considered by the City Council; therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Texas Public Service Company be and the same is hereby permitted to lay and construct its gas mains in and upon the following streets: (1) A gas main in ROSEWOOD AVENUE from Chicon Street westerly a distance of 212 feet, the centerline of which gas main shall be 17 feet south of and parallel to the centerline of said Rosewood Avenue. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 22 feet. (2) A gas main in MAYBELLE AVENUE, beginning at a point 15 feet west of the east line of said Maybelle Avenue and 217 feet south of the south line of West 44th Street; Thence in a southerly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 15 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Maybelle Avenue, for a distance of 143 feet. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. (3) A gas main in RIVERSIDE DRIVE, beginning at a point 26 feet north of the south line of said Riverside Drive and 389 feet east of the eest line of Manlove Street; Thence in an easterly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 26 feet north of and parallel to the south line of said Riverside Drive, for a distance of 158 feet. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2t feet. (4) A gas main in CHESTNUT AVENUE from Manor Road south 267 feet, the centerline of which gas main shall be 74 feet east of and parallel to the west line of said Chestnut Avenue. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 22 feet. (5) A gas main in SPEEDWAY, beginning at a point 72 feet west of the east line of said Speedway and 220 feet north of the north line of 45th Street; Thence in a northerly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 7 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Speedway, for a distance of 100 feet. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (6) A gas main in EXPOSITION BOULEVARD, beginning at a point 7½ feet west of the east line of said Exposition Boulevard and 3 feet north of the north line of Enfield Road; Thence in a northerly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 72 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Exposition Boulevard, for a 81 82 distance of 1.40 feet. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (7) A gas main in WEST TWELFTH STREET from a point 30 feet west of the west line of Shelley Avenue westerly a distance of 5 blocks to West Lynn Street, the centerline of which gas mein shall be 14 feet south of and parallel to the north line of said West 12th Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2t feet. (8) A gas main in EASON STREET across the south side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 15 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Eason Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (9) A gas main in ELM STREET across the north side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 7t feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Elm Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2t feet. (10) A gas main in ELM STREET, beginning at a point 13 feet west of the east line of said Elm Street and 40 feet south of the south line of West 12th Street; Thence in a northerly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 1.3 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Elm Street, for a distance of 86 feet to a point 14 feet south of the north line of West 12th Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (11) A gas main in MARSHALL LANE across the north side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 70 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Marshall Lane. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. (12) A gas main in MAUFRAIS STREET across the south side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 15 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Maufrais Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2t feet. (13) A gas main in LORRAIN STREET across the north side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 7 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Lorrain Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (14) A gas main in NATHAN STREET across the south side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 15 feet west of and parallel to the east line of Baid Nathan Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. (15) A gas main in SHELLEY AVENUE across the north side of West 12th Street, the centerline of which gas main shall be 7 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Shelley Avenue. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. The Texas Public Service Company 19 hereby put upon notice that the City of Austin does not guarantee that the space assigned above is clear from other underground ut111ties, but is based upon the best records we have at hand, and that the minimum depth stated does not have any reference to the fact that greater depths may not be required at special points. When the Texas Public Service Company requires definite information upon the ground as to elevations or working points from which to base the location of their assignments, they shall apply to the City Engineering Department not less than three (3) days before such information is required. The Texas Public Service Company is further put upon notice that they will be required to bear the expense of repairs or replacement of any underground utility damaged during the construction of lines named in this resolution. AND THAT whenever pavement is cut in the vicinity of a fire plug, water must be used at intervals during the course of backfilling of the ditches. THAT the work and laying of said gas mains, including the excevation in the streets and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after said mains have been laid, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, and under all i the pertinent terms and conditions of the certain franchise granted to said Company by the City of Austin, The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, G11118, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf, 5; nays, none. Councilman Alford offered the following resolution: WHEREAS, Texas Public Service Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps or plans showing the proposed construction of its gas mains in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said maps or plans have been considered by the Oity Council; therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Texas Public Service Company be and the same is hereby permitted to lay and construct its gas mains in and upon the following streets: (1) A gas main in WEST THIRTY-FOURTH STREET, beginning at a point 19 feet south of the north line of West 34th Street and 379 feet west of the west line of Cedar Street; Thence in a westerly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 19 feet south of and parallel to the north line of said West 34th Street, for a distance of 370 feet. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (2) A gas main in DUVAL STREET, beginning at a point 11 feet west of the centerline of Duval Street and 320 feet south of the south line of East 47th Street; Thence in a northerly direction with a gas main, the centerline of which shall be 11 feet west of and parallel to the centerline of said Duval Street, for a distance of 20 feet. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 22 feet.
