REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 281 Austin, Texas, April 15, 1937. The meeting was called to order at 10:40 A. M., with Mayor Pro tem Oswald G. Wolf presiding. Roll call showed the following members present; Councilmen C. F. Alford, Simon Gillis, and Mayor Pro tem Oswald G. Wolf, 3; absent, Councilman C. M. Bartholomew and Mayor Tom Miller, 2. The Minutes of the regular meetings of March 18, March 25, and Apr11 1 were read and upon motion of Councilman Alford were adopted, as read, by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, and Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; naye, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2. Mayor Pro tem Wolf introduced the following resolution: WHEREAS, the Public Works Administration requires a statement from the City of Austin showing that the amount of water available is adequate for the needs of the city; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the water supply available to the City of Austin from the Colorado River is continuously adequate for the needs of the city. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, 011118, and Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2. Councilman Alford offered the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: 1 THAT the sum of $400 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Fund, not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of the binding of periodicals for the Austin Public Library. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, G11118, Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2. Councilman Gillis offered the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the sum of $150 be and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Fund, not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of additional help for the Austin Public Library during the summer monthe. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, G11118, and Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2. Councilman Alford offered the following resolution: WHEREAS, Texas Public Service Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps or plans showing the proposed construction of ite gas mains in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said maps or plans have been considered by the City Council; therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Texas Public Service Company be and the same is hereby permitted to lay and construct ite gas mains in and upon the following streets: (1) A gas main in NEWFIELD LANE across Watchhill Road intersection, the center line of which gas main shall be 7 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Newfield Lane. Baid gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (2) A gas main in NEWFIELD LANE across Polo Road intersection, 282 the center line of which gas main shall be 70 feet west of and parallel to the cast line of said Newfield Lane. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 22 feet. (3) A gas main in NEWFIELD LANE across the north portion of Niles Road, the center line of which gas main shall be 7 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Newfield Lane. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. (4) A gas main in NEWFIELD LANE across the south portion of Niles Road, the center line of which gas main shall be it feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Newfield Lane. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 24 feet. (5) A gas main in POLO ROAD from Newfield Lane cast 5 feet, the center line of which gas main shall be 20 feet south of and parallel to the north 1ine of said Polo Road. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. (6) A gas main in NILES ROAD across Newfield Road intersection, the center line of which gas main shall be 12 feet south of and parallel to the north line of said Niles Road. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (7) Agas main in NILES ROAD from Westfield Road westerly a distance of 126 feet, the center line of which gas main shall be 12 feet south of and parallel to the north line of said Niles Road. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2t feet. (8) A gas main in WEST 29TH STREET westerly 253 feet from a point 90 feet west of the west line of Harris Boulevard, the center line of which gaa main shall be 7 feet south of and parallel to the north line of said West 29th Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. (9) A gas main in SINCLAIR AVENUE from West 45th Street south 14 reet, the center line of which gas main shall be 9 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Sinclair Avenue. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 24 feet. (10) A gas main in CASWELL AVENUE southerly 68 feet from a point 37 feet south of the south line of Grapevine Street, the center line of which gas main shall be 15 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Caswell Avenue. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2 feet. (11) A gas main in WEST 34TH STREET westerly 30 feet from a point 106 feet west of the west line of Helphill Park, the center line of which gas main shall be 19 feet south of and parallel to the north line of said West 34th Street. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 2t feet. (12) A gas main in NEWFIELD LANE from Enfield Road southerly 82 foet, the center line of which gas main shall be 72 feet west of and parallel to the east line of said Newfield Lane. Said gas main described above shall have a cover of not less than 20 feet. 1 The Texas Public Service Company is hereby put upon notice that the City of Austin does not guarantee that the space assigned above is clear from other underground utilities, but is based upon the best records we have at hand, and that the minimum depth stated does not have any reference to the fact that greater depths may not be required at special points. When the Texas Public Service Company requires definite information upon the ground as to elevations or working points from which to base the location of their assignments, they shall apply to the City Engineering Department not less than three (3) days before such information is required. Texas Public Service Company is further put upon notice that they will be required to bear the expense of repairs or replacement of any underground utility damaged during the construction of lines named in this resolution. AND THAT whenever pavement is out in the vicinity of a fire plug, water must be used at intervals during the course of backfilling of the ditches. THAT the work and laying of said gas mains, including the excavation in the streets and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after said mains have been laid, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, and under all the pertinent terms and conditions of the certain franchise granted to said Company by the City of Austin. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2. i It was moved by Councilman Alford that a taxicab driver's permit be issued to John William Burris, 703 Neches Street, in accordance with the recommendation of Roy J. Smith, Captain of Police, Traffic Division. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, and Mayor Pro tem Wolf, 3; naye, none; Councilman Bartholomew and Mayor Miller absent, 2.
