SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Austin, Texas, May 20, 1940. The City Council convened in special session, at 7:30 P. M., May 20, 1940, in the Council Room at the Municipal Building, with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members presents Councilmen Alford, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; absent, Councilmen Bartholomew and Wolf. The following Architects were present: Chas. H. Page, H. F. Kuehne, Kreisle & Brooks, and Page & Southerland. The following members of the Executive Committee of Brackenridge Hospital were present: Dr. J. O. Thomas, Dr. M. F. Kreisle, Dr. G. F. Thornhill, and Dr. H. Olay Perkins. Mr. Quiton Morgan, City Manager; Mr. Geo. 8. Buis, Administrator of Brackenridge Hospital; and Dr. Ralph E. Cloud of the Travis County Medical Society, were present, also. The Mayor stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of a further open discussion with the Architects and the Doctors of the plans for renovating the old hospital, building an addition to the Nurses Home, improvements to the clinic, building a contagious disease ward, building a pay pavilion, and equipment for the Hospital, under the $450,000 bond issue recently voted by the taxpayers. Following a general discussion of the matters involved, it was the sense of the meeting that a maximum sum of $60,000 be allotted for equipment for the Hospital. It was the sense of the meeting, further, that, when the plans and specifications have been drawn by the Architects, Dr. Lucius R. Wilson of Galveston, Texas, an expert on hospital planning, be employed for a few days to pass upon such plans and specifications.
