576 THAT the work and laying of said gas mains, including the excavation in the streets and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after naid mains have been laid, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, and under all the pertinent terms and conditions of the certain franchise granted to said Company by the City of Austin. The City Council convened in special session in the Council Room at the Municipal Building on Friday, November 1, 1940, at 3:30 P. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members prosents Councilmen Alford, Dartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; absent, NONE. There were present, also, the following members of the Associated Hospital Architects: Messrs. H. F. Kuehne, Edwin C. Kreisle, Max Brooks, Louis Page, and C. H. Page, and a large number of con tractors. The Mayor stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of awarding contracts on Brackenridge Hospital and Nurses Home improvements, in accordance with bids heretofore received and analyzed. The Mayor further stated that the bids had run higher than anticipated due to the rising cost of materials as a result of the war situation, but that no additional increase in the tax rate would be necessary to take care of the increased cost. The following written recommendations of the Associated Architects were submitted by C. H. Paget "Austin, Texas November 1, 1940 The Honorable Mayor and City Council Gentlemon: We recommend that the general contract be awarded to Rex D. Kitchens Construction Company on his Base Bid No. 6 at $264,444.00 plus the additions for Alt. 5th floor, Alt. 4 Corridor, Alt. South Wing, making a total of $290,497.00 lens deductions and additions as outlined in list hereto attached, making the total amount of the contract, $276,735.00. This to be subject to any further additions or deductions as the City may see fit to do. In regards to the mechanical contracts, we wish to state that there was a list of additions and doductions furnished by the Architects and city electricians asking that they make a bid in regard to the additions and deductions. X. Jennings, Jr., asked permission to submit his bid on the additions and deductions on the Electrical Wiring asked for by the Architects and City Electricians heretofore. The question of whether such bid be received at this late hour being put to the Architecte and the Council, it was the unanimous opinion that same should not. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Wolfs WHEREAS, a special meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin was held on the first day of November, 1940, for the purpose of awarding contracts for construction and equipment of Brackenridge Hospital and the Nurses' Home in connection therewith, in accordance with bide theretofore received and analyzed; and WHEREAS, at said meeting, the City Council, upon the recommendation of the Associated Hospital Architects, voted unanimously that the bidders hereinafter namod had submitted certain lowest and best bids, and that contracts should be awarded to them; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the Acting City Manager, James A. Garrison, be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to execute appropriate formal contracts as of the 4th day of November, 1940, with the following bidders for the purposes and at the amounts set forth, subject to additions and deductione to be provided for, and subject further to such alterations as the Associated Hospital Architects shall see fit to makes General Contract for Brackenridge Hospital and Improvements: Rex D.
