Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, nono. Upon motion, seconded and carried, the meeting was recessed at 12:10 P. M., subject to call of the Mayor. Attents Oity Olerk SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Approval, Jom Miller. Mayor Austin, Texas, December 19, 1940. The City Council met in special session in the Council Room at the Municipal Building at 7:30 P. M., Thursday, December 19, 1940, with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; absent, Councilmen Alford and Bartholomew. The Mayor stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of hearing appeals of taxpayers from the action of the Board of Equalization for the year 1940, in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter. The following appeals were then considered: The written protest of Mrs. Ralph Wolfe against the assessment of $3450 on the improvements on Lot 1, Block 23, Rosedale F, asking that same be reduced, was received. No action was taken on the matter. The written protest of Mrs. Loona Longshore against the assessment of $3385 on the improvements on Lot 3, Block D, Outlot 3, Division "Z", Terrace Park Subdivision, asking that same be reduced, was received, No action was taken on the matter. The written protest of John D. Kinney against the assessment of $1200 on Lot 6, Outlot 1, Division "Z", Woodland Subdivision, and $1915 on the improvements; and the assessment of $690 on Lot 7, Block 1, Niles Graham Subdivision of the Geo. W. Spear League, and $1345 on the improvements, was received. No action was taken on the matter. The written protest of Peter and Laura Cain Estate, represented by Mrs. Cleora М. Коsse, against the assessment of $900 on Lots 7 and 8, Block 15, Outlot 46, Division "B", and $385 on the improvements, was considered. The matter was taken under advisement, pending an inspection of the property by the City Council. The written protest of L. G. Phares, ropresented in person, also, against the assessment of $8095 625 626. on the improvements on Lote 1 and 2, Barton Springs Heights Subdivision, consisting of three garage apartments and one two-story house, asking that same be reduced to $7140, was considered. The matter was taken under advisement, pending an inspection of the property by the City Council. The written protest of J. B. Robertson, et al., on various pieces of property owned by the Robertson Estate, was received. No action was taken on the matter. The written protest of A. J. Trautwein, represented in person, also, against the assessment of $2215 on the improvements on Lot 23, Block 7, Outlot 5, Division "z", asking that same be reduced to $1200, was considered. The matter was taken under advisement, pending an inspection of the property by the City Council. The written protest of the Wende and Otto Estate, represented by John Wende in person, also, against the assessment of $8150 on a quarter block of the northeast part of Outlot 34, Division "E", and of $4110 on the improvements, was considered. No action was taken on the matter, pending an inspection of the property by the Oity Council. The written protest of P. M. Williame against the assessment of $765 placed on Lot 12, Blocks 5, 6, 7, and 8, Ward-Harper Resubdivision, and the assessment on a 1936 Buick automobile, asking that both of same be reduced, was received. No action was taken on the matter. The protest of Hra. C. F. Goodridge, in person, against the assessment of $7515 on the improvements located at 602-604 West Sixth Street, asking that same be reduced, was considered. No action was taken on the matter, pending an inspection of the property by the 01ty Council. The written protest of Miss Alice Carman, represented in person, also, against the assessment of $5340 on Lot 11, Outlot 20, Division "D", asking that same be reduced to its former assessment of $3505; or, in lieu thereof, that a reduction on the improvements thereon be made commensurate with the raise on the land. No action was taken on the matter, pending an inspection of the property by the City Council. The written protest of Louis Silberstein, ropresented in person, also, against the assessment of $1290 on the improvements on Lot 2, Block 140, Original City, asking that same be reduced to $750, was considered. No action was taken on the matter, pending an inspection of the property by the 01ty Counc11. The written protest of Mamie Lawrence against the assessment of $1885 on the improvements on Lot 10, Outlot 29, Division "E", asking that same be reduced, was received. No action was taken on 1 the matter, pending an inspection of the property by the Oity Council, Mesdames Otto and Wonde were present and petitioned the Council to have the rip-rap walk promised them by a former administration put in at their place at Second and Red River Streets. The matter was taken under advisement. The City Attorney was instructed to confer with the State Fire Insurance Commissioner, the Chief of the Fire Department, and the Building Inspector relative to the advisability of amending the Fire Zone Ordinance so as to place the area on West Sixth Street from Red River Street to Chicon Street in a loss restrictive sone.
