Π The following resolution was introduced: WHEREAS, Harris Bass was assessed a fine of Sixteen Dollars ($16.00) in a speeding case in the Corporation Court, which he paid; and WHEREAS, after the payment of said fine, it was found that said Harris Bass was a minor and could not be fined, but could be sent to Traffic School, and, accordingly, on February 15,1941, the judgmont was set aside and he was sent to Traffic School; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the said amount of Sixteen Dollars ($16.00) be, and the same is horeby, appropriated out of the General Fund for the purpose of refunding same to the said Harris Bass for speeding fine which he paid. Mayor Pro Tem. 193 Austin, Torns, March 6, 1941. The City Council convened in regular session, at the reguler meeting place in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building on Thursday, March 6, 1941, at 10:45 A. H., with Mayor Tom Millor presiding. Moll call showed the following mombers present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; absent, none. The Minutes of the regular moctings of February 20, 1911, and Fobruary 27, 1941, were read, and upon motion of Councilman Gillis, were adopted as read by the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. Mr. Robert Sherman appeared before the Council and submitted a petition, signed by all of the abutting property owners, asking for the closing of the alloy traversing Block Number Eight (g) of the Tobin and Johnson Subdivision, being a part of the Daniel J. Gilbert Survey in the City of Austin, Texas. The petitioners were adviced that it was not the policy of the City to close said alley at the present time, but that, as limitation does not run against the City, they would be permitted to fence " 194 said alley until such time as the City may have use for samo. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Alford: WHEREAS, in Book 3, page 155, of the Plat Rocords of Travis County, Texas, there appears a map or plat of a subdivision of land known as Block No. 1, Arbolos Estate; and WHEPMAS, a street 50 fect in width, known as Woodland Avenue, is shown upon the aforesaid map or plat, which has boon dedicated for public street purposes; and WHEREAS, Nannie E. Dawson, omer of all of the land abutting each sido of said Woodland Avenue, hos petitioned the City Council of the City of Austin to permanently abandon, vacate, and close the said Woodland Avenue, and the said Nannie E. Dawson has agreed to dedicate in lieu of Woodland Avonuo other stroets serving this general vicinity to a better advantage, and a tentative layout has beon prepared showing the streets to bo dedicated in lieu of said Woodland. Avenue, and said plan has been reviewed and considered by the City Council of the City of Austin; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Woodland Avenue as shown upon the map or plat of Block 1, Arboles Estate previously referred to, is hereby permanently abandoned, vacated, and closed. Whon the Toxas Public Service Company requires definite information upon the ground as to elevations or working points from which to base the location of their assignments, they shall apply to the City Engineering Department not loss than three (3) anys beforo such information is roquired. The Reverend A. F. Brown, Colored, submitted a petition signed by property owners, asking for street lighte near the intersection of Dodson and Leona Streets and at a point midway on Leona Street between Dodson and Rosowood Streets. The matter was referred to W. E. Seaholm, Superintendont of Flectric Division, with instructions to have the lights installed if possible. The Mayor brought before the meating, for further consideration, the proposal to purchase the Austin Memorial Park Cometery, for a consideration of $60,000, stating that the matter had boen submitted to the people through the press and that to date no protests had been received: that the City Council had known for some time that it would eithor have to extend the present cemetery or buy land for another cemetery elsewhere; that to extend Oakwood Cemetery to the east would be a costly proposition, and to buy land for a cemetery in another part of the city would most with cbjections from surrounding property omers; that the said Memorial Park Cemotery was already established and improved and the rovenue from the sale of lots would, in time, pay for the purchase price; and that, after due consideration of all mattera involved, it was the conclusion of the City Council that said Austin Memorial Park Comotery should be purchased, subject to certain legal matters to be gone into by the City Attorney. The Mayor further stated that he wished it distinctly understood. that the purchase of this Cometory would in no way mean the abandonment of Oakwood. Cemotery or Annox. It was thon the senso of the meoting that a public hearing for a discussion of the proposed purchase with the owners of lots in the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery be called for Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 P. M., in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building; and that the City Attorney be instructed to secure all necessary legal papers from the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery Association. Acting City Manager Garrison submitted a report on the WPA Sewing Room Project, showing that an additional appropriation of $3600 will be necessary for the continued operation of same. After a discussion of the matter, the Acting City Manager was instructed to take the matter before the Commissioners Court of Travis County, with the request that the County pay one-third of the additional cost of operation. 200 Councilman Wolf moved that the bid of D.
