Upon motion of Councilman Wolf, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following votet ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomow, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. Upon motion, seconded and carried, the meeting was recossed, subject to call of the Mayor. Attest: City Clerk REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: Applovet Jom milla. Mayor Austin, Texas, March 17, 1942. The City Council convened in regular session at the regular meeting place in the Council. Chamber at the Municipal Building, on March 17, 1942, at 10:30 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Volf; absent, Councilman Bartholomew. At the request of the Mayor, the meeting was hold on Tuesday inatend of Thursday, the regular meeting day. The Minutes of the regular meeting of March 12, and the special meeting of March 14, 1942, woro read, and upon motion of Councilman Alford, were adopted as read by the following vote: nyos, Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew absent. Committees from the Chamber of Commerce, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Rotary Club, South Austin Civic Club, Kiwanis Club, Exchange Club, Twenty-Thirty Club, Defense Recreational Council, and a number of citizens individually, came before the Council and urged that the City start immodiato Construction on the bath house at Barton Springs in order to accommodate the great influx of soldiers from Camp Swift and other Government units; and that the present light rates be maintained this year without thought of rebate the money thus saved to be used for the furtherance of the recreational program induced by the war. , Following the discussion, it was moved by Councilman Wolf that the City Manager be instructed to proceed at once with securing prices on the construction of the bath house at Barton Springs under the plans and specifications already drawn, and that the $50,000 set aside in the Budget be used for this ригрове. R. Blackmore & Song on general construction, leos Alternate No. 1, in the amount of $31,896.00; the bid of Spiller-Millor on plumbing, in the amount of $1,985.00; the bid of Fox-Schmidt on electric wiring, in the amount of $826.00, be accepted as tho lowest and best bids; and that the architects' fee for $1,735.35 and contingent expense for $1,500.00 he also approved, all in accordance with the recommendations of the City Manager, and, further, that the City Manager be authorized to enter into contracts accordingly. The application of Jamos Monroe McDuglo, 81 San Saba Street, for a taxicab drivor's permit, us recommended by the City Manager for approval, was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the application be approved. The motion prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmon Alford, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomow absent. The application of Alonzo Hobbs, 80h West Gibson Street, for a taxicab driver'a permit, as rocommonded by the City Manager for approval, vas submitted, Councilman Alford moved that the application be granted. The motion prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Cillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none; Councilman Bartholomew absent. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Gillis: WHEREAS, Texas Public Service Company has presented to the City Council tentative maps or plans showing the proposed construction of its gas mains in the streets in the City of Austin hereafter named, and said maps or plans have been considered by the City Council; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COIFICIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Toxas Public Service Company bo, and the same is hereby, permitted to lay and construct its 559 560 コ gas mains in and upon the following stroots: (1) A gas main in IEST 119TH STREET from Woodrow Avonuo casterly 120 foot, the centerline of which gas main shall be 7 foct south of, and marallel to the north prop- erty line of said West 49th Street. Said Gas main described above shall have a covering of not loss than 2 feet. (2) Agus main in CHICON STREET from Riverview Stroet southerly 708 fect, the centerline of which gas main shall be foet west of, and parallel to, the cast prop- orty line of said Chicon Street. Said gas main described above shall have a covering of not loss than 2 feet. (3) A gas main in HOLLY STREET from Chalmers Avenue westerly 348 feet, the contorline of which gas main shall be 26 feet south of, and parallel to, the north property line of said Holly Street. Said gas main described above shall have a covering of not less than 2 feet. The Texas Public Service: Company is hereby put upon notice that the City of Austin does not guarantee that the space assigned above is clear from other underground utilities, but is based upon the best records we have at hand, and that the minimum depth stated does not have any reference to the fact that greater dopthe may not be required at special pointo. When the Texas Public Service Company requires definite information upon the ground as to elevations or working points from which to buse the location of their assignments, they shall apply to the City Engineering Department notless than three (3) days before such information is required. The Texas Public Service Company la further put upon notice that they will be required to bear the exponse of repairs or replacement of any underground utilities damaged during the construction of lines named in this rosolution. AND THAT whenever pavement is cut in the vicinity of a fire plug, water must be used at inter vals during the course of backfilling of the ditches. AND THAT the work and laying of said gac mains, including the excavation in the streets and the restoration and maintenance of said streets after said mains have been laid, shall be under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, and under all the pertinent terms and conditions of tho certain franchise granted to said Company by the City of Austin. Upon motion of Councilman Gillis, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: ayes, Councilmon Alford, Cillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilmun Wolf; naye, none; Councilman Bartholomew abcent. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Wolfs BE IT RESOLVED BY TIDE CITY COUNCIL OF TIM CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the City Managor be, and he is hereby, authorized, if it becomes necessary between now and the next meeting of the City Council, to submit to the United States Government a letter requesting that they condemn the land for the Airport for the City of Austin, giving them a cashier's check on the City Treasuror, in the amount of $1466,600.00, from money of the City available, or with temporary overdraft on the City Treasurer.
