The Ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Wolf moved that the rules be further suspended and the Ordinance be placed on its third reading. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew, and the same prevailed by the following votes ayes, Councilmon Alford, Bartholomew, 0111ic, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; naye, nono. The Ordinance was road the third time and Councilman Wolf moved that the Ordinance be finally passed. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew, and the same prevailed by the following votes ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, G1111s, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. The Mayor declared the Ordinance finally passed. The Council approved the proclamation by the Mayor, designating the week of April 12-19 48 "Ohina Week," for the relief of Chinese war sufferers. Mayor Miller submitted to the Council, the written request of Dr. George I. Sanchez, Professor of Latin American Education, and President General, League of United Latin American Oitizens, on behalf of a group of public-spirited citizens and civic organizations, asking that a full-time recreation director be appointed for the community center on Comal Street. The matter was referred to the Recreation Department for consideration and report back to the Council and the City Manager as to what can be done, whether such appointment can be made from this year's budget, or will entail additional expense; and if so, how much. Upon motion, seconded and carried, the meeting was recessed at 11:55 A. M., subject to call by the Mayor. M., for the purpове of considering and acting upon matters matters relative to contracts and the sale of bonda in connection with the proposed Air Corps Unit near the City of Austin. "CONSENT TO MEETING 1 We, the undersigned members of the City Council hereby accept service of the foregoing notice, waiving any and all irregularities in such service and much notice, and consent and agree that said City Council shall meet at the time and place therein named, and for the purposes therein stated. WOLF " It was moved by Councilman Gillis, seconded by Councilman Alford, that the City Council will agree with the United States Government as follows: (1) that the Government may retain title to the land purchased with City funds for the duration of the war, with conveyance to the O1ty as soon as practicable following the close of the war; and (2) that the question of leaving the improvements on the land, such as runways, buildings, etc., and the conveyance of such improvements to the City, may be determined at the time the land is returned to the City, and that no agreement in the meantime shall be required of the Government to convey the improvements. The motion prevailed by the following voter ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf. Naye, None. : The Mayor was authorized to notify Captain E. T. Linder, Chief, Leasing and Claims Real Estate Division, Chief of Engineer's Offico, War Department, Washington, D. C., of this action of the City Council by wire. The City Manager was instructed to notify the Mercantilo-Commerce Bank & Trust Company; Martina, Burns & Corbett; and Garrett & Company, purchasers of the Airport Bonds, that the City of Austin desires to sell $450,000,00 of such Airport Bonds.
