REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 61.1 Austin, Texas, May 14, 1942. The O1ty Council convened in regular session, at the regular meeting place in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building, on Thursday, May 8, 1942, at 10:45 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Counc11man Wolf; absent, none, The Minutes of the regular meeting of May 8, 1942, were read and upon motion of Councilman Gillis, were adopted as read, by the following vote: ayes, Coumilmen Alford, Bartholomew, G11118, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; naye, none. The written request of Travis Post No. 76 of the American Legion for permission to use Barton Springs and Zilker Parks for their Independence Day celebration on July 2, 3, and 4, was received. It was the sense of the Council that the request be granted. The written request of the Austin Federation of Musicians that the budget appropriation for concerts be increased to $2000 in the interest of better concerts, starting in June, was received. The matter was referred to the Acting City Manager to find out what the proposal for better concerts is, and report to the Council. The written request of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars for permission to use Wooldridge Park for their Memorial Day services on May 31, at 4:30 P. M., was received. It was the sense of the Council that the request be granted. Councilman Wolf nominated John B. Pearson as a member of the Board of Equalization for the two-year term beginning May 1, 1942, and ending May 1, 1944. The nomination was confirmed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. Councilman Wolf nominated Sterling F. Tadlock as a member of the Board of Equalization for the twoyear term beginning May 1, 1942, and ending May 1, 1944. The nomination was confirmed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. The following ordinance was introduced by Councilman Bartholomewi AN ORDINANCE AMENDING "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE STORAGE, SELLING, TRANSPORTATION, TRANSFERRING, AND HANDLING OF EXPLOSIVES WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND WITHIN THE AREA LYING 5000 FEET OUTSIDE SUCH CORPORATE LIMITS; PRESCRIBING LICENSES FOR PERSONS SELLING, HANDLING, TRANSPORTING OR EXCHANGING EXPLOSIVES, AND PRESCRIBING REGU LATIONS FOR THE PROTEOTION OF PUBLIC WORKS, BUILDINGS, HIGH WAYS, RAILROADS, AND UTILITY FACILITIES AND SERVIONS WITHIN THE CITY OF AUSTIN AND WITHIN ITS POLICE JURISDICTION, REFEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, BUT MAKING THIS ORDINANON CUMULATIVE OF OTHER ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES NOT IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING A SAVING SHOTION; PRESCRIBING PENALTIES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY"; WHICH ORDINANCE WAS PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN ON DECEMBER 24, 1941, AND IS RECORDED IN BOOK "L", PAGES 207-212, OF THE ORDINANCE RECORDS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, AND WHICH WAS AMENDED BY AN ORDINANCE PASSED FEBRUARY 19, 1942, AND IS RECORDED IN BOOK "L", PAGES 225-228 OF THE ORDINANCE RECORDS OF THE OITY OF AUSTIN, BY PRESCRIBING FURTHER REGULATIONS FOR HANDLING AND STORING EXPLOSIVES WITHIN THE OITY OF AUSTIN, AND WITHIN ITS POLICE JURISDICTION, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENΟΥ. : The Ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Bartholomew moved that the rules be suspended and the Ordinance be passed to its second reading. The motion was seconded by Councilman Alford, and the same prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Millor, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. The Ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Bartholomew moved that the rules be further suspended and the Ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion was seconded by Councilman Alford, and the same prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. 612 The Ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Bartholomew moved that the Ordinance be finally passed. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Gi111st BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the City Manager, or Acting City Manager, be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed, in behalf of the City of Austin, to execute a correction deed to Mrs. R. B. Fairbanks to the following described property: Lot No. 3, in Block 11, Outlot 32/33, Division "B", Glenwood Addition to the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas.
