REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: 627 Austin, Texas, June 11, 1942. The City Council convened in regular session, at the regular meeting place in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building, on Thursday, June 11, 1942, at 10:45 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller proniding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; absent, none. The Minutes of the regular meeting of June 5, 1942, were read, and upon motion of Councilman Alford, were adopted as read by the following votet ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. Mrs. Lyle Hamner presented a petition, signed by thirty-four students in civilian pilot training classes at the Municipal Airport, asking for bus service to the Airport; said petition being supplemental to a petition heretofore filed by the citizens of Ridgetop and adjacent territory asking for bus service. After some discussion, it was moved by Mayor Miller that the Austin Transit Company be ordered to put on buses to serve the eastern part of Ridgetop and adjacent territory by JUNE 25, 1942, with : the stipulation that if, after a trial period, it is found that the patronage is insufficient to pay the expense of operation, said buses may be discontinued. The motion prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none; absent, none. The Mayor's appointment of Prof. John H. Frederick as Defense Administrator of Transportation for the City of Austin under the Office of Civilian Defense was unanimously approved. Miss Lydia Littman submitted a request for the remission of the penalties on the delinquent taxes assessed against Lot 3, Block 1, Outlot 43, Division "0", Spence Addition, in consideration of the payment by her of the delinquent taxes and accrued interest. The matter was taken under advisement. : Mr. John T. Smith submitted a request for an adjustment of the taxes assessed against certain property in the name of his client, Margaret Daniels. The matter was taken under advisement and referred to Councilmen Gillis and Wolf for consideration and recommendation to the Council. The following ordinance was introduced by Councilman Wolfs AN ORDINANCE TENTATIVELY FIXING AND LEVYING MUNICIPAL TAXES FOR THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1942; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The Ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Wolf moved that the rules be suspended and the Ordinance be passed to its second reading. The motion prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. The Ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Wolf moved that the rules be further suspended and the Ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion prevailed by the following vote: ayen, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none. The Ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Wolf moved that the Ordinance be finally paваed. The motion prevailed by the following vote: ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none, The Mayor then declared the Ordinance finally passed. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Wolf, who moved its adoption: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the sum of Six Hundred Dollars ($600.00) be, and the same is hereby, appropriated out of the General Fund, not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of correcting the roadway at the southeast intersection of Barton Springs Road and Fredericksburg Road, adjacent to Wende's Store, in accordance with new plans submitted. 628 The motion was seconded by Councilman Gillis, and the same prevailed by the following votos ayes, Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Wolf; nays, none.
