interest in the sum of $10,08, making the total amount of taxes, penalty, and interest, $65.01; and WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $3.03, and one-half of the interest in the sum of $5.04; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $3.03, and one-half of the interest in the sum of $5.04, are hereby romitted; and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $3.03, and one-half of the interest in the sum of $5.04, off his rolle, and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of said taxes and one-half of the interest, as aforesaid. Upon motion, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following votet "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. MAYOR Austin, Texas, March 4, 1943 The City Council convened in regular session, at the regular meeting place in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building, on Thursday, March 4, 1943, at 10:55 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomow, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; absent, Councilman Wolf. There were present also: Walter E. Seaholm, Acting City Manager; J. E. Motheral, City Engineer; J. M. Patterson, Jr., Acting City Attorney; and R. D. Thorp, Chief of Police. The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of February 25, 1943, were read, and upon motion of Councilman Alford were adopted as read by the following vote: "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The application of Charles Gilbert Moody, 1615 Congress Avenue, for a taxicab driver's permit, which had been recommended for denial, was submitted. After a consideration of the facts in the case, it was moved by Councilman Alford that the said Charles Gilbert Moody be granted a probationary taxicab driver's permit for ninety (90) days, and that applicant be instructed to report to the 171 172 Chief of Police every thirty days in the meantime. The motion carried by the following vote: "Ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "naye," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The following ordinance was introduced by Mayor Millert AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A GENERAL ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING FIVE COUNCILMEN OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS BEGINNING MAY 1, 1943, DESIGNATING THE FOLLING PLACES IN THE VARIOUS WARDS, AND PROVIDING THE PROCLAMATION OF SAID ELECTION. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Bartholomew moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to its second reading. The motion was seconded by Councilman Alford, and was carried by the following vote: "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The ordinance was then read the second time and Councilman Alford moved that the rules be suspended and the ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion was seconded by Councilman Gillis, and was carried by the following vote: "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillie, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The ordinance was then read the third time and Councilman Gillis moved that the ordinance be finally passed. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bartholomew, and was carried by the following vote: "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The application of Bernard Warren, 95 Rainey Street, for a taxicab driver's permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was submitted.
