The motion carried by the following vote: "nyes," Councilmen Alford, Bertholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller: "nays," none; Councilmen Wolf absent. The application of WALTER DEE COLLINS, 910 East 13th Street, for a taxicab driver's permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was submitted. Councilmen Alford moved that the application be granted. The application of WALTER JEFTERSON WALKER, 170? Walnut Avenue, for a taxicah driver's permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was submitted. Councilman Bartholomew moved that the permit be granted. The motion corried by the following votes "eyen," Councilmon Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller: "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. THOMAS ALTON TAYLOR, 709 West Lynn Street, appeared before the Council on appeal for the granting of his application for n taxicab driver'e permit, recommended for denial by the Chief of Police, et al. After a consideration of the facts in the case, it was moved by Mayor Miller that the anid Thomas Alton Taylor be granted a 90-day probationary permit to drive a taxicab, with the provision that he report to the Chief of Police at intervals in the meantime, and if at end of said probationary period, Applicant's record is clear, permit be extended. The motion carried by the following vote: "nyes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The following resolution was introduced by Councilmen Gi111st (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the Acting City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed, in behalf of the City of Austin, to execute a quitclaim deed to W. R. E. Boothe Estate to the following described propertys Lots 7, 8, and 9, in Block 17, Swisher's Addition, in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas. THAT said quitclaim deed shall be in consideration of the payment of all taxes and court costs involved in said suit in which judgment was rendered in favor of the City of Austin, and said property sold to the said City of Austin. The application of Robert Lucien Nickell, 2915 Went Avenue, for a commercini pilot's license to operate a commercial bont, duly approved by the Lake Austin Navigation Board, wor received. Councilmon Bartholomew moved that the license be granted. The following resolution was introduced by Mayor Miller: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, On January 15, 1918, A. J. Zilker conveyed to the City of Austin 42.51 acres of land, known as Barton Springs property; and WHEREAS, On December 29, 1931, Мг. Zilker conveyed to the Board of Trustees of the Public Free Schools of the City of Austin, and the Board, in turn, conveyed to the City of Austin 280.5 acres of land immediately west of and adjacent to said Barton Springs property; the proceeds from all of reid conveyances to be used as a Trust Fund for the needs of the Schools of Manual Training and Home Economics, a part of the public school system of the City of Austin; and WHEREAS, On April 20, 1934, Mr. Zilker conveyed by deed of gift to the City of Austin additional property immediately adjoining the Barton Springs Tract hereinbefore mentioned; and WHEREAS, During the many years since these tracts of lend were so generously provided by Mr. 211ker for the benefit of the public, the citizens of Austin, their queste, and visitors to our City have enjoyed the recreational facilition afforded by these beautiful Springs and the lende adjoining, and the children attending our schools have enjoyed the benefits of his generosity; and WHHHNAS, it is desired to commemorate the grent philanthropies of Mr. A. J. Zilker and couse future generations to have brought to their attention his splendid gifts that they may expreus eratitude for his benefactions; therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTINS THAT all of the land conveyed in the deeds hereinbefore mentioned be, and the same is hereby, constituted and designated a public park, and that same shall be named and hereafter officially known AR ZILKER PARK, and the Springs in said park known na Barton Springs shall be named and hereafter officially known as ZILKER SPRINGS. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Gill18: (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the sum of $200.00 per month, for the twelve months beginning January 1, 1943, or so long thereof as the necessity for same exists, be, and the same is hereby appropriated out of the General Fund not otherwise appropriated for the purpose of paying the City of Austin's pro rata of the contribution to the Fifth Battalion Texas Defense Quard. Upon motion of Councilman Gillis, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following votes "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The following resolution was introduced: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, It has been determined that the assessment for taxer against the improvements on Lot 1 and the Eart 10 feet of Lot P, Block 9. Walsh Pince, Plat 142, in the City of Austin, Travis County, Toxos, for the year 1942, ѕверлed in the name of Ben T. Rogers, is excessive; and that came should now be corrected for said year; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the assessment for toxos on said property for the year 1942 be, and the name is hereby, reduced and corrected from the prosent agressed value of $7610,00 to $1935.00; and that the City Assessor and Collector of taxos is authorized and directed to make such change on the tax rolls. The following resolution was introduced: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, City of Austin taxes were assessed in the nome of B. 4. Riske for the years 1940 and 1941 on 10.?? acres, Lot (19), Hill Survey, Plot 106-B (St. Elmo School District) and for the year 1939 on 11.75 acres, Lot (19), Hill Survey, Pint 106-B (St. Elmo School District), raid texes being for the sum of $7.40 and for non-payment of same at maturity, penalty and interest in the sum of $1.12 has been ansessed, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest the ตาม of $3.52; and WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit snid penalty 205 206 206 ond interest in the sum of $1.17; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the foresaid penalty and interest in the ลามก of $1.12 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is authorized and directed to charge said penalty and interest in the sum of $1.12 off his rolls and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of said toxes in the sum of $7.40.
