214 REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUL Austin, Texan, May 17, 197 The City Council convened in Remuler Session, at the regular meeting place in the Council Chomber at the Municipal Building, on Thursday, May 13, 1943, at 10:40 A. H., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll coll showed the following members prosent: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; absent, Councilman Wolf. There were present also: Walter E. Scholm, Acting City Manager: J. E. Motherol, City Engineer: J. M. Patterson, Jr., Acting City Attorney; and R. D. Thorp, Chief of Police. The Minutes of the Regular Meeting; of May 6, 1943, were rond, and upon motion of Councilman Bartholomew, were adopted as rend by the following vote: "ayen," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. Acting City Manager Seaholm submitted a request to the Council for the construction of additional drossing rooms at Zilker Springs bathhouse, at an estimated cont of $550.00, made necessary by the large increase in patronage. Councilman Bartholomew then offered the following resolutiont (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the sum of FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS ($550.00), or so much thereof as may be needed, be, and the same is hereby, approprinted out of the General Fund not otherwise appropriated for the purpore of constructing additional dressing rooms at Zilker Springe bathhouse to necommodate the large increase in patronage. Upon motion of Councilman Bartholomew, the resolution was adopted by the following vote! "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bertholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. : The application of John Golden Farmer, 1503 Newning Avenue, for a renewal of his taxicab driver's permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was cubmitted. Councilman Alford moved that the application be granted. The motion corried by the following vote: "nyes," Councilmen Alford, Bertholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller: "nnys," none; Councilmen Wolf absent. The application of Ralph Hugh Smith, 1003 West 12th Street, for a renewal of his toxicab driverla permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was submitted. Councilmen Alford moved that the application be granted. The motion carried by the following vote: "ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "noys," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The application of Ellis Marvin Powell, 300 Congress Avenue, for a license to operate ne a taxicab 1.941 Model Chevrolet Sedan, Motor No. AA5099, 1942 State License N14-259, 1943 State License FE-3435. duly approved by the Acting City Manerer, et al., wan submitted. Councilman Gillis moved that the license be granted, subject to the approval of the Office of Defence Transportation and the transfer of an existing normit. The motion corried by the following vote: "nyen," Councilmen Alford, Bertholomew, Gillie, and Mayor Miller: "noys," none; Councilman Wolf brent. The application of John Grohom Ringonber, 601 Bort 43rd Street, for toxicob driver's pormit, duly approved by the Actin City Manurer, et al., was rubmitted. Councilmen Alford moved that the permit be punted. The motion carried by the followin; vote: "yes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "naye," none; Councilman Wolf brent. Ayers K. Rose, Attorney, come before the Council to umeal the application of Robert E. Maddox, 1123 Wert 5th Street, fors taxicab driverte permit, which had been recommended for denial. After a consideration of the facts in the case, it was moved by Councilman Gillis that the application be granted for a ninety-day probationary period. The motion carried by the followin" vote: "yes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "naya," none; Councilman Wolf absent. 1 215 The application of Worth Borton, 903 Art 9th Street, for heer permit for Borton Barbecue Stand, 417 Enst 6th Street, duly "pproved by the Actin City Minor, et al., we mbmitted. Councilman Alford moved that the application bented. The motion corried by the following vote: Hoves," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, 71111", and Mayor Miller; "nrye," none; Councilmen Wolf absent. Acting City Manager Seaholm submitted to the Council e request from Lovrence Owens for the permanent closing of a portion of Mecinin Street adjacent to Lot 3, Outlot 13, Division "B". After a consideration of the matter, the Acting City Attorney was instructed to give proper notice to shutting property owners of the intention to vacate raid street. There being no further business, upon motion, seconded and errried, the meeting une recessed at 11:30 Α. Μ., subject to call of the Mayor.
