REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL 227 Austin, Texas, June 17, 1943 The City Council convened in Regular Session, at the regular meeting place in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building, on Thursday, June 17, 1943, at 10:25 A. M., with Mayor Pro Tem Bartholomew presiding. Roll call showed the following members presents Councilman Alford, Mayor Pro Tem Bartholomew, and Councilman Gillis; absent, Mayor Miller and Councilman Wolf. There were present also: Walter E. Seaholm, Acting City Manager; and J. M. Patterson, Acting City Attorney. 1 The minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 10, 1943, were read and upon motion of Councilman Gillis, wore adopted as read by the following vote: "ayes," Councilman Alford, Mayor Pro Tem Bartholomew, and Councilman Gillis; "nays," none; Mayor Miller and Councilman Wolf absent. The application of Ohlen Reeder, 2403 Fredericksburg Road, for a renewal of his taxicab driver's permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the permit be renewed. The motion carried by the following vote: "ayes," Councilman Alford, Mayor Pro Tem Bartholomew, and Councilman Gillis; "nays," none; Mayor Miller and Councilman Wolf absent. The application of James McCullough Anthony, 609 East 46th Street, for a taxicaư driver's permit, duly approved by the Acting City Manager, et al., was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the permit be granted. Bartholomew introduced the following ordinances AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THAT CERTAIN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE OPERATION OF TAXICABS AND TAXICAB DRIVERS IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN UNDER THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY, PRESCRIBING LICENSE FEES FOR TAXICABS AND DRIVERS THEREOF; PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THE ORDINANCE; PROVIDING A SAVING CLAUSE; RE- PHALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES, EXOMPTING CERTAIN JITNEY ORDINANCES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY," WHICH ORDINANCE WAS PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN DECEMBER 15, 1938, AND IS RECORDED IN BOOK "K", PAGES 440-452, OF THE ORDINANCE RECORDS OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, BY AMENDING SUBPARAGRAPH 1, SECTION 13(a), RELATING TO THE AGE REQUIREMENT OF TAXICAB DRIVERS, AND BY ADDING TO SECTION 13 ANOTHER SUBSECTION, SUBSECTION (4), RELATING TO REVOCATION OR SUSPENSION OF TAXICAB DRIVERS LICENSES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The Ordinance was read the first time and laid over. There being no further business, upon motion of Councilman Gillis, seconded by Councilman Alford, the meeting was recessed at 10:45 A.
