294 the Acting City Manager for attention. There being no further business, upon motion seconded and carried, the meeting was recessed at 11:00 P. M., subject to call of the Mayor. ATTEST: OITY OLERA REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL: APPROVID, Jom miller. Austin, Texas, October 7, 1943 The City Council convened in Regular Session at the regular meeting place in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building on Thursday, October 7, 1943, at 10:35 A. M., with Mayor Tom Miller presiding. Roll call showed the following members present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; absent, Counciiman Wolf. There were present also: Walter E. Beaholm, Acting City Manager, J. E. Motheral, City Engineer; J. M. Patterson, Jr., Acting Oity Attorney; and R. D. Thorp, Chief of Police. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of September 30, 1943, were read, and upon motion of Councilman Alford, were adopted as read by the following vote: "Ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "Nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The Council approved a proclamation by the Mayor proclaiming November 9 as AUSTIN COMMUNITY AND BROTHERHOOD DAY, the City having as its guest on this occasion the honorable Basil O'Conner, member of the Executive Board of the National Conference of Christian and Jews. The application of ROBERT OLIVER THOMAS, 3100 Glenview Street, for a taxicab driver's permit, duly recommended for approval by the Acting City Manager et al, was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the permit be granted. The motion carried by the following vote: "Ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "Nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The application of L. A. ELLIS, 20 Chicon Street, for a taxicab driver's permit, duly recommended for approval by the Acting City Manager et al, was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the permit Π be granted. The motion carried by the following votes "Ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "Nays," none; Councilman Wolf absent. The following resolution was introduced: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, City of Austin taxes were assessed in the name of Leonzie Black for the years 1931 through 1942 on Lot 7, Block 22, Outlot 13, Division "0", John Dowell Subdivision in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, said taxe's being for the sum of $16.90, and for nonpayment of same at maturity, penalty in the sum of 8.84 has been assessed, and interest in the sum of $4.50 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest $22.24; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $.84 and a part of the interest in the sum of $1.40; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $.84 and a part of the interest in the sum of $1,40 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $.84 and a part of the interest in the sum of $1.40 off his rolls and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of said taxes and a part of the interest, as aforesaid. The foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: "Ayes," Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, and Mayor Miller; "Naye," none; Councilman Wolf absent. Mayor.
