497 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 497 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS REGULAR MEETING AFTERNOON SESSION June 1,1944 3:00 P.M. Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order, with Mayor Miller presiding. Roll call Present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Absent: Councilman Wolf 4 Present also: Walter E. Seaholm, Acting City Manager; J.M.Patterson, Jr,, Acting City Attorney; Members of the School Board; and Dr. Russell A.Lewis, Superintendent of Austin Public Schools. The Mayor announced that the meeting was called for the purpose of discussing with the School Board their request for additional revenue for the schools for the year 1944-45. The School Board then submitted a written estimate of their revenues and budget appropriations for said year, and asked for additional funds from the City, in the amount of $129,673.58, to pay for the proposed increase in the salaries of the teachers and other personnel to offset the increase in the cost of living. A lengthy discussion as to the most appropriate means for raising such additional revenue, particularly with reference to the transfer of Water and Light Funds for this purpose, was then entered into. Following which, the matter was taken under advisement with the Acting City Attorney. Upon motion, seconded and carried, the meeting was recessed at 4:30 P.M., subject to call of the Mayor.
