CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Recessed Meeting June 20, 1944 10:30 Α.Μ. Council Chamber, City Hall 506 The meeting was called to order, with Mayor Pro tem Bartholomew presiding. Roll call Present: Councilmen Alford, Gillis, and Mayor Pro tem Bartholomew - 3 Absent : Mayor Miller and Councilman Wolf - 2 Present also: Walter E. Seaholm, Acting City Manager; J. E. Motheral, City Engineer; and J. M. Patterson, Jr., Acting City Attorney. The following report by the City Engineer on tabulation of bids for the construction of the Third Floor Addition to the Nurses Home at Brackenridge Hospital was submitted by the Acting City Manager: "Memorandum to Mr. Seaholm: June 20, 1944 The bids which were opened yesterday morning, June 19, for the Third Floor Addition to the Nurses Home at Brackenridge Hospital have been tabulated and are as follows: J. B. Clardy Construction Co., Fort Worth, Texas - - $57.960.00 Holland Page, Austin, Texas - - - - 58,164.00 Joe Bland Construction Co., Austin, Texas 61,243.00 Baugh & Scott, San Antonio, Texas 61,866.00 R. H. Folmar, Austin, Texas 63,331.00 J. M. Odom, Austin, Texas 63,512.00 We have endeavored to check the record of the Clardy Construction Company and have gotten a very favorable report on them from the City of Fort Worth, where they are now constructing a 500,000 gallon water storage tank. I also was advised by the Fort Worth Director of Public Works that they have done several building jobs for Fort Worth and that their work was entirely satisfactory. In view of the above report, it is the recommendation of this department that the contract for the Nurses Home Addition be awarded to the J. B. Clardy Construction Company for $57.960.00. Motheral, City Engineer." 3 5 1 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 507 Councilman Gillis then offered the following resolution, and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: SECTION 1. THAT Walter E. Seaholm, the Acting City Manager, be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to execute for and in behalf of the City of Austin the contract with the J. B. Clardy Construction Company of Fort Worth, Texas, for the construction of the addition to the Nurses' Home, owned by the City of Austin and located at 705 East 14th Street, Austin, Travis County, Texas; the total consideration for the work to be done by the said J. B. Clardy Construction Company to be the sum of FIFTY-SEVEN THOUSAND NINE HUNDRED SIXTY DOLLARS ($57,960.00), and to be performed in accordance with the terms and conditions of the attached plans and specifications and contract. SECTION 2. THAT the City Clerk be, and she is hereby, authorized and directed to place a copy of the attached plans and specifications and contract in the permanent files of her office without the necessity of record- ing the contents of same in the minutes of the City Council. Which motion, carrying with it the adoption of the resolution, prevailed by the following vote: Councilmen Alford, Gillis, Mayor Pro tem Bartholomew Ayes : Nees : None Absent: Concilman Wolf and Mayor Miller.
