Roll call Present: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Absent : Councilman Wolf 1 3 The minutes of the Recessed Meeting of June 14, and the Regular Meeting of June 21, 1945, were read, and on motion of Councilman Alford, were adopted as read by the following vote: Ayes : Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The application of CLIFFORD LEE STRAEHLY, 5511 Jeff Davis Street, for a taxicab driver's permit, duly approved by the City Manager, was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the permit be granted. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The application of CHARLES L. SUMMERS, 1403 South 5th Street, for a license to operate as a taxicab a Chevrolet Sedan, 1941 Model, 1945 License No. FS-7019, to replace Taxicab License No. 45 cancelled, duly approved by the City Manager, was submitted. Councilman Bartholomew moved that the license be granted. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The application of HERMAN OWENS, 1311 West 6th Street, for alicense to operate as a taxicab a door Pontiac Sedan, 1941 Model, 1945 License No. FR-7482, Factory No. 6-762591, to replace License No. 46 cancelled, duly approved by the City Manager, was submitted. Councilman Bartholomew moved that the license be granted. OWENS, colored, came before the Council and asked permission to furnish transportation from the depot to the Olivet Baptist Church, at the corner of San Bernard and Cotton Streets, for delegates coming to the Old Land Mark District Association of Texas Convention to be held here on July 3-6. The request was granted, with the provision that no charge be made for transportation. The application of SAN JACINTO INN, 301 East 16th Street, by Cruz Galindo, for a retailer's beer and wine permit, duly approved by the City Manager, was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the permit be granted. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes : None Absent: Councilman Wolf A written request from MRS. FLORENCE E. RICHEY that the City donate the sum of $135.00 to supplement funds provided by the State Department of Vocational Education for the canning program carried on in the City, was submitted by the City Manager. Councilman Gillis moved that the request be granted. Crockett that his prospective tenant no longer desired the use of the premises south of Riverside Drive between South Congress Avenue and Barton Springs Road for a riding stable, the public hearing on the application for a variation in zoning of said premises to permit this use, set for 11:00 A. M., was omitted. Mesdames J. T. EAVES and LYMAN J. BAILEY came before the Council and asked that further steps be taken for the entire removal of the trailer 400 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 406 camp at 1402 Fast 2nd Street. the City Attorney. The matter was taken under advisement with WRIGHT STUBBS, attorney for JOE WILSON SMALL, appeared before the Council to appeal his client's application for a taxicab driver's permit. After considering the appeal, it was the sense of the Council that the application be denied.. The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin taxes for the years 1932 through 1940 on personal property in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, were assessed in the name of Gus A. Friske & Goodyear Shoe Shop; said taxes for said years being in the amount of $282.38, and for non-payment of same at maturity, alty in the sum of $14.11 has been assessed, and interest in the amount of $145.72 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest due $442.21; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $14.11 and one-half of the inter- est in the sum of $72.86; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $14.11 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $72.86 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $14.11 and said interest in the sum of $72.86 off his rolls, and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon payment of the taxes and one-half of the interest as aforesaid. vote: Upon motion, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes : None Absent: Councilman Wolf The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin taxes for the years 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, and 1943 on 60'x 83' on 25 St. (A), Outlot 52, Division D, Unplatted, in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, were assessed in the name of Mrs. Charles E. Pinckney; said taxes for said years being in the amount of $480.32, and for non-payment of same at maturity, penalty in the sum of $24.02 has been assessed, and interest in the amount of $158.80 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest due $663.14; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $24.02 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $79.40; therefore 407 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 407 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN; THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $24.02 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $79.40 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $24.02 and said interest in the sum of $79.40 off his rolls, and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of the taxes and one-half of the interest as aforesaid. vote: Upon motion, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Ayes: Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin taxes for the years 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1944 on personal property (merchanidse, furniture and fixtures, etc.) in the City of Austin Travis County, Texas, were assessed in the name of Haenel's Cash Store; said taxes for said years being in the amount of $828.69, and for non-payment of same at maturity, penalty in the sum of $41.43 has been assessed, and interest in the amount of $156.52 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest due $1026.64; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $41.43 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $78.26; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN, THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $41.43 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $78.26 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $41.43 and said interest in the sum of $78.26 off his rolls, and to issue to the party entitled to receive same s receipt in full upon the payment of the taxes and one-half of the interest as aforesaid. vote: Upon motion, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin taxes for the years 1927, 1928, 1930, 1931, 1934, and 1937 through 1943 on personal property in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, were assessed in the name of B. Bedgood; said taxes for said years being in the amount of $48.28, and for non-payment of same at maturity, penalty in the sum of $2.41 has been assessed, and interest in the 408 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 408 amount of $24.79 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest due $75.48; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $2.41 and all of the interest in the sum of $24.79; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $2.41 and all of the interest in the sum of $24.79 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $2.41 and said interest in the sum of $24.79 off his rolls and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of the taxes as aforesaid. vote: Upon motion, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin taxes for the years 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, and 1940 were rendered in the name of W. H. Fuller Funeral Home on personal property in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas; said taxes for said years being in the amount of $279.62, and for non-payment of same at maturity, penalty in the sum of $13.98 has been assessed, and interest in the amount of $128.48 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest due $422.08; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $13.98 and one-half of the inter- est in the sum of $64.24; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $13.98 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $64.24 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Collector of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $13.98 and said interest in the sum of $64.24 off his rolls, and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of the taxes and one-half of the interest as aforesaid.
