Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order, with Mayor Miller presiding. Roll call Present: Absent : Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Councilman Wolf 1 - - 4 Present also: Guiton Morgan, City Manager; J. E. Motheral, City Engineer; W. T. Williams, City Attorney; and R. D. Thorp, Chief of Police. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 9, 1945, were read, and on motion of Councilman Alford were adopted as read by the following vote: Ayes : Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes : None ion: Absent: Councilman Wolf Councilman Gillis offered the following resolution and moved its adopt(RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT Guiton Morgan, City Manager of the City of Austin, be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to execute a release of the South 46 feet of Lots 5 and 6, Block 7, Outlet 45, Division "B", in the City of Austin, from a judgment of foreclosure in Cause No. 57,731, styled City of Austin vs. S. G. Akridge, recorded in Volume 72, page 439, of the Minutes of the District Court of Travis County, Texas, it appearing to the Court that all taxes and costs owing to the City of Austin, as contained in said judgment, have been paid. A. Shaw by which A. A. Shaw shall be permitted to use and occupy Lot No.52 and the north one-half (Ng) of Lot No. 53 in Outlot 55, in Division "B", in the City of Austin, during the lifetime of the said A. A. Shaw, for such 461 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 461 consideration as to the said Guiton Morgan may deem to be to the best interest of the City of Austin. by the following vote: Which motion, carrying with it the adoption of the resolution, carried Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Ayes: Noes : None Absent: Councilman Wolf The application of JULIA ALMA FOSTER, 1601 West 47th Street, for a license to operate as a taxicab a 4-door Pontiac, 1941 Model, Engine No. B-1373652, State License No. FR7482, to replace Taxicab License No. 46 cancelled, was submitted by the City Manager. Councilman Alford moved that the license be granted. The motion carried by the following votes: Ayes; Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absents Councilman Wolf The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the Honorable County Judge and County Commissioners of Travis County on June 16, A. D. 1945, unanimously adopted and signed a resolution complimenting and commending John Hornsby for his long and splendid record of outstanding public service and his originating the greeting "You are Mighty Welcome to Your Capital City", and elected him as an official greeter; and WHEREAS, after reading said resolution, we heartily endorse it because we consider it timely and well deserved; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, hereby appoint John Hornsby an Official Greeter for our most beautiful and friendliest Capital City. The resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes : Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes : None Absent: Councilman Wolf The application of DRENON F. SAMUEL 308 West Monroe Street, for a license to operate a taxicab, being a 1942 Model Chevrolet Sedan, Engine No. BA681867, State License No. FB-2755, approved by the City Manager, was submitted. Councilman Alford moved that the license be granted. The motion carried by the following votes Ayes : Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf The following resolution was submitted: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin taxes for the years 1941, 1942, 1943, and 1944, were rendered in the name of C. W. Heath on W. 78 of Lots 3 and 4, Block 2, Pleasant Grove, Plat 77, Item 67, in the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas; said taxes for said years being in the amount of $127.05 $1 4. CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 462 and for non-payment of same at maturity, penalty in the sum of $6.35 has been assessed, and interest in the amount of $14.15 has accrued, making the total amount of taxes, penalty and interest due $147.55; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Austin deems it just and equitable to remit said penalty in the sum of $6.35 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $7.07; therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: THAT the aforesaid penalty in the sum of $6.35 and one-half of the interest in the sum of $7.07 are hereby remitted, and the Tax Assessor and Col- lector of the City of Austin is hereby authorized and directed to charge said penalty in the sum of $6.35 and said interest in the sum of $7.07 off his rolls, and to issue to the party entitled to receive same a receipt in full upon the payment of the taxes and one-half of the interest as aforesaid. Upon motion, the foregoing resolution was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Alford, Bartholomew, Gillis, Mayor Miller Noes: None Absent: Councilman Wolf There being no further business, upon motion seconded and carried, the meeting was recessed at 11:30 A.
