1672 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Special Meeting October 10,1947 3:00 P.M. Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order, with Mayor Miller presiding. Roll call Present: Councilmen Bartholomew, Glass, Johnson, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Thornberry - 5 Absent: None Present also: Guiton Morgan, City Manager; Joe Roberts, Assistant City Attorney; W. T. Williams, Jr., Tax Assessor and Collecter; and J. D. Huffman, Finance Director. The following NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING and CONSENT TO MEETING were ordered spread on the Minutes: "NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: Notice is hereby given that a special meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin will be held on the 10th day of October, 1947, at the Municipal Building, Eighth and Colorado Streets, in Austin, Texas, at three o'clock P. M. for the purpose of adopting an ordinance fixing the tax rate for the year 1947 in the City of Austin, Texas. (Seal) Dated this 10th day of October, 1947. " 1673 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS "CONSENT TO MEETING We, the undersigned members of the City Council, hereby accept service of the foregoing notice, waiving any and all irregularities in such service and such notice, and consent and agree that said City Council shall meet at the time and place therein named, and for the purposes therein stated. Bradfield, Chairman, was received: Honorable Mayor and City Council Austin, Texas Gentlemen: "Austin, Texas October 9, 1947 Mr. Ehrenborg has compiled a following total value for the various classes of Austin property: Land Buildings -$68,830,000 96,647,000 Personal Property Total $211,191,000 (Including Automobiles) 45,714,000 The committee has approved his land values, personal property values, and his residential improvements values. We are now checking business improvements values. We believe that the changes which the committee is making and which the Board of Equalization will probably make, will not exceed $5,000,000. We think that $205,000,000 is a close reasonable estimate of the final total. Respectfully submitted, CITIZENS TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE By (Sgd) W. L. Bradfield, Chairman. " CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 1674 Councilman Thornberry introduced the following ordinance, AN ORDINANCE TENTATIVELY FIXING AND LEVYING MUNICIPAL TAXES FOR THE CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS, FOR THE YEAR 1947; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. The ordinance was read the first time and Councilman Thornberry moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance be passed to its second reading. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bartholomew, Glass, Johnson, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Thornberry Noes: None The ordinance was read the second time and Councilman Thornberry moved that the rule be further suspended and the ordinance be passed to its third reading. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bartholomew, Glass, Johnson, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Thornberry Noes: None The ordinance was read the third time and Councilman Thornberry moved that the ordinance be finally passed. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Bartholomew, Class, Johnson, Mayor Miller, and Councilman Thornberry Noes: None The Mayor thereupon announced that the ordinance had been finally passed.
