Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor Glass presiding. Roll call: 2 Present: Councilmen Drake, Johnson, Long, MacCorkle, Mayor Glass Absent: None NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING 288 TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: Notice is hereby given that a special meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin will be held on the 28th day of May, 1949, at the Municipal Building, Eighth and Colorado Streets, in Austin, Texas, at ten-thirty o'clock A.M. for the purpose of discussion and decision in regard to new construction of buildings and remodeling of City Hall and selection of architects to prepare plans. MacCorkle Mayor Glass announced the purpose of this meeting was to discuss the new building program and to get it started. There was a detailed discussion as to which architects would be employed for the different buildings, in an effort to equally distribute the City business among the different architects in the city. Representatives from the firms Giesecke, Kuehne and Brooks; C. H. Page and Son; Page, Southerland and Page, were called in to work out an agreement between the three as to the architectural services for the Police and Courts Building. It was stated that the Coliseum work had been granted to Fehr and Granger; The Hospital additions to the three firms Niggli & Gustafson; Giesecke, Kuehne & Brooks; and C. H. Page & Sons. The Council wanted to distribute the different projects to the various architects in Austin. Councilman Drake offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with the firm of JESSEN, JESSEN, MILLHOUSE & GREEVEN, Architects, for the construction of the Health Building across from the Bracken- ridge Hospital. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Drake, Johnson, Long, MacCorkle, Mayor Glass Councilman MacCorkle offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESLOVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized and directed to 210 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 290 enter into a contract with the firms PAGE, SOUTHERLAND AND PAGE; GIESECKE, KUEHNE & BROOKS; CHARLES H. PAGE AND SON; Architects, for the Police and Courts Building. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Drake, Johnson, Long, MacCorkle, Mayor Glass Noes: None Councilman Long offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Manager be and he is hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with the firm of PAGE, SUTHERLAND AND PAGE, Architects, for the addition of two floors on the second story of the City Hall, north wing. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Drake, Johnson, Long, MacCorkle, Mayor Glass Noes: None Councilman Drake offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, the City of Austin has under consideration, and has heretofore filed applications through the Texas State Department of Health for a federal grant and aid through the United States Public Service, for construction of Austin Travis County Health Unit; now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That the City Manager be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute all necessary applications, supplimental information, certified copies of agreements and other papers pertaining to the final filing of said application, and such other matters as may be necessary to meet the requirements of the Texas State Department of Health and the United States Public Health Service. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Drake, Johnson, Long, MacCorkle, Mayor Glass Noes: None There being no further business, upon motion of Councilman Johnson, the meeting adjourned at 1:45.
