Council Chamber, City Hall 26 262 The meeting was called to order with Mayor McAden presiding. Roll Call: Present: Councilmen Long, Pearson, Thompson, White, Mayor McAden Absent: None The Mayor announced that this meeting was called to consider and determine the ratio of full value which should be used for the assessment of property for taxation. The Mayor introduced the following ordinance: AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING THE MANNER OF ASSESSMENT OF TAXABLE PROPERTIES IN THE CITY OF AUSTIN BY THE CITY TAX ASSESSOR AND COLLECTOR. The ordinance was read the first time, and Councilman Pearson moved that the rule be suspended and the ordinance passed to its second reading. The motion seconded by Councilman White, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long*, Pearson, Thompson, White, Mayor McAden Noes: None The ordinance was read the second time, and Councilman Pearson moved that the ruleebe suspended and the ordinance passed to its third reading. The motion, seconded by Councilman White, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Pearson, Thompson, White, Mayor McAden Noes: None 263 263 CITY OF AUSTIN. TEXAS The ordinance was read the third time, and Councilman Pearson moved that the ordinance be finally passed. The motion, seconded by Councilman White, carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Long, Pearson, Thompson, White, Mayor McAden Noes: None The Mayor announced that the ordinance had been finally passed. *Councilman Long stated she voted for this ordinance with the stipulation that her intention was to roll the tax rate back to equal the present tax rate except for the need that would be necessary to service the bonds that would be sold in the near future. Earlier in the meeting Councilman Pearson stated he was against raising taxes but would have to be realistic, and there would be 10,000 more people to serve, and the schools stated they would have a program that would be increasing. Councilman White stated he was of the same opinion. The Mayor stated that the continued growth and expansion of the facilities the city controlled, and the increase in the needs of the schools, it would be necessary to provide for them. Coundlman Thompson stated he was not ready to make any statement regarding any tax increase, as it could not be set this date.
