266 266 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: Notice is hereby given that a Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Austin will be held on the 4th day of April, 1955, at the Municipal Building, Eighth and Colorado, in Austin, Texas, at 2:00 P.M. for the purpose of canvassing the returns and declaring the official results of the General Election held April 2, 1955. Council Chamber, City Hall The meeting was called to order with Mayor McAden presiding. Roll call: Present: Long, Pearson, Thompson, White, Mayor McAden Absent: None The Mayor announced that the purpose of this meeting was to canvass the returns and declare the official results of the General Election held April 2, 1955. Councilman White offered the following resolution and moved its adoption (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, by virtue of an election held in the City of Austin, Texas, on 2nd day of April, 1955, for the purpose of electing five Councilmen, the official returns from the election officials and the canvass thereof by the City Council show that there were cast at said election 21,477 votes; and, WHEREAS, said returns, and the canvass thereof, also show that the following named persons severally received the total votes set opposite their names, respectively, to wit: Councilman, Place No. 1 Mrs. Stuart (Emma) Long Hub Bechtol Received 11,032 Received 9,942 Councilman, Place No. 2 Ben White Received 10,577 Wally Scott Received 10,337 Councilman Place No. 3 Arch Braswell Tom Miller Received 8,172 Received 12,594 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 268 268 Councilman, Place No. 4 Lester E. Palmer received a majority of the votes for Councilman, Place No. 4, and Wesley Pearson received the highest number of votes for Councilman, Place No. 5; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN: That, in accordance with said returns, as received and canvassed, the following named persons are hereby declared duly elected and authorized to qualify for the position of Councilman for the City of Austin, for the term of two years beginning May 15, 1955: vote: Mrs. Stuart (Emma) Long Place No. 1 Place No. 2 - Ben White Place No. 3 Place No. 4 Tom Miller Place No. 5 - - Lester E. Palmer Wesley Pearson The motion, seconded by Councilman Pearson, carried by the following Ayes: Councilmen Long, Pearson, Thompson, White, Mayor McAden Noes: None adoption: Councilman Thompson offered the following resolution and moved its (RESOLUTION) WHEREAS, by virtue of a poll held in the City of Austin, Texas, on the 2nd day of April, 1955, for the purpose of determining the wishes of the people on the two propositions hereinafter named, the official returns from the election officials and the canvass thereof by theCity Council show that there were cast at said poll 21,477 votes; and, WHEREAS, the following named propositions each received the approval and disapproval of the number of individuals set opposite thereof, respectively, to wit: PROPOSITION NO. 1 Shall dogs be prohibited from running at large in 269 CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 289 the City of Austin?
