_ CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS 255 255 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Public Hearing April 16, 1956 7:30 P. M. Library Auditorium The meeting was called to order with Mayor Miller presiding. The Council held a public hearing on the proposed bond issue at the Library Auditorium, 7:30 P. M., April 16, 1956. Councilman Palmer was out of the City at this time. MAYOR MILLER listed several others who could not be at the meeting, but who had sent their endorsement of the issue and offered to help out in any way. The City Manager gave a detailed resume of the proposal, stating one change in his former recommendation to provide for $200,000 Library Bonds. Former Councilman TED THOMPSON made inquiry about sewer bond money, as to specific locations of laterals and mains in different areas. It was stated the specific laterals were not designated. Mayor Miller announced that the only priorities would be out of previous bond issues where the need was urgent and where the people were promised that the connections would be made. MR. FRED MORSE noted that the larger part of the issue, the Revenue Bonds, would pay for itself. MR. ALBERT DAVIS, Water Superintendent, explained the proposals for Water and Sewer. MR. DEXTER KINNEY, Electric Superintendent went over charts and showed expented expenditures during the next five years both out of bond money and out of profits from the system. Mr. Thompson asked if these bonds would be paid for at the present rate schedule, and the City Manager answered that they would be. MR. REUBEN ROUNTREE, Director of Public Works, showed the proposals for paving, construction of bridges and storm sewers, and highway rights of way. The City Manager went over in detail the proposals for the Airport, pointing out what moneys would be matched by the Federal Government, and what parts of the Airport would bring in money which would amortize its improvements. Different ones in the audience were anxious to see the airport bonds go forward due to the great need, and the benefits to be realized by the City. 256 256 _ CITY OF AUSTIN, TEXAS Former Mayor TAYLOR GLASS wanted to see the work on the low-water dam go forward in the five year period. MAYOR MILLER stated that money would be needed to print literature, etc., for the bonds, and he stated he would ask MR. E. W. JACKSON, MR. JOHN BROAD, MR. CHARLES BURTON to set up a committee to raise some money. The Citizens present, on MR. CHARLES BURTON'S motion, adopted a Resolution endorsing the bond issue and urging theCity Council to submit it to the Citizens. This was by unanimous vote.
