Austin Debates Bus Fares, Service

Monday, September 10, 1956 special called
  • Austin city leaders held a public hearing and began the process of updating city bus fares, which hadn't been changed since 1947.
  • Residents voiced concerns about the proposed changes, including the hassle of providing exact change for weekly bus passes (addressed by a plan for tickets or tokens) and a desire for better bus schedules.
  • A separate issue arose regarding the lack of school bus service to Wooten School, with the local transit company agreeing to meet with parents to find a solution.
