Big Water Fix, Zoning Boosts Growth
Here's a concise look at Austin's agenda:
City Expansion & Development:
Major zoning changes were approved for recently annexed areas, defining land use and building height. Specific industrial-to-commercial rezonings were also passed, a portion of St. Johns Avenue was vacated, and plans progressed to acquire land for a future highway loop.Critical Infrastructure Upgrades:
An emergency project was approved to replace a broken 24-inch water main under the Colorado River. Additionally, essential repairs were funded for a key water filter plant, and contracts were awarded for new electrical voltage regulators, paving, and a storm sewer.Financial Stability & Airport Business:
The city's tax rate was tentatively kept steady at the previous year's level. Discussions also covered a new rent-a-car company seeking space at the airport, anticipating a new terminal.
